Default Scotchgard on the interior... a NO-NO

I am really frustrated with myself, because I read a previous thread and decided to use Scotchgard on my tC's interior, thinking that it would maintain the nice black look. I could not have been more wrong! It left a really weird, dull film on the fabric, and some of the more thickly-covered areas have faint white spots on them (like someone spilled a drink or something)... argh!! Using a California duster helped some but it doesn't make it completely better. Does anyone have experience with evening out this kind of mess or have a solution to get it out altogether? much appreciated.

How much did you use??? I used ScotchGuard on my car first thing when i bought the car and everything is just fine... unless the dealer pre-treated your seats which may have caused the Scotchguard to bead off and dry in a weird fashion. Don't know what to tell ya man

Mine has Scotchgard on the interior, and it looks exactly the same as every other tC interior I've seen.

Well ScotchGuard is essentially a laminant for all intents and purposes. It's in liquid state long enough to permeate the material and then seal all of the absorbancy of the fabric, basically laminating your seats. I don't know what the melting point is of the solvent but I can imagine it's really high, high enough for you to do serious damage to your apholstery trying to get it out with a steam cleaner. I would check to see if there is a solvent that will break down ScotchGuard and use that on your seats, then use a rug-steamer attachment to suck it all out. It's worth a shot...

that's why we don't offer interior protection even when the customers ask about it. the seat fabrics on all the scions isn't your typical cloth interior.

Hi Rich,
That's wierd. I WAS offered interior protection for my tC although I did not purchase it :? . Is there a product available that we can use to protect our interiors? -Jayme

Product says to test it on a hidden part of fabric before using. Thanks for the alert. I will have to be careful in using scotchguard on the tC. I bought the bottle two weeks ago and still have to apply it.

ScotchGuard :D when used properly and in moderation, works great.

Bought regular SchotchGuard from walmart ($5), applied two moderate coats (as the directions state) - interior looks as good as it looked before the application.

We had a pretty heavy rain and I had a passenger who for some reason stuck his umbrella inside the car first, so that watter dripped all over the seats - it beaded off without going inside the seat. So I guess scotchguard works. Just don't buy SctochGuard for carpet - it's extra strength and is intended for use in high-trafic areas. Regular upholstery ScotchGuard works just fine. One can is enough to do the entire car twice.
