Screaming brakes anyone???
Ok everyone, I have had my tC for about 6 months now and for the past month, the brakes will scream everytime I hit the brakes. Not scream like AGGHHHHHH, but like that old car in your neighborhood that hasnt had a tune up since the day it was purchased. Any sugestions to fix this. By the way, my pads are still good. Is anyone else having this prob??

It's a little annoying and sometimes embarrassing. But after they warm up they don't make any noise.
I was researching some high performance brakes a few years ago for another car, and was told that they would squeal consistently when used just because of the composition of material and friction. And when they stopped squealing it meant that they were losing friction because they were becoming pliable due do overheating. Don’t mean to thread-jack, but anyone have any knowledge on this reason/theory?

Imma go and take a video of my screaming/squealing pig brakes and shout recall.
oh my oh my....
Usually the higher friction brakes will make some squeals.
From HAWKS website quote:
"Warning! Due to the dramatic friction levels produced by this product to achieve "race-level" braking, rotor wear, noise, dust, and pad life may be affected."
And brakes will not lose friction or anything unless you contaminated it or glaze rotors/pads. Squealing will be squealing.
I run HAWK HP+ for the past 10K miles and its been squealing since day one. And now I need a new set, running a little thin almost... But it can still stop like the way it was day one when I first installed it. I remember when I had fairly new tires (falken 512) those pads were so strong they locked the wheels up before the ABS even kicks in.
Even with OEM brakes they can make noise depending on how you use it. If you constantly ride your brakes to cause a little glaze on the rotors/pads it will probably make noise.
BUT NO WHERE IN HELL will they recall for brakes squealing...

Squealing can also be due to brake dust issues, although if you're running stock pads or other "high performance" pads with low brake dust then I really don't see why they should be making noise. Especially at 20k? That's pretty crazy, unless you slam the brakes all the time, which I doubt.
I coast a lot and use passive engine braking, so I don't use my brakes anywhere nearly as much as "most" people would. I finally only broke thorugh 1000 miles yesterday, though, so only time will tell.

well it sounds like possibly the brakes weren't broken in correctly. If they aren't broken in correctly, the disc (rotor) can glaze over, get a glossy, shiny appearance. And then everytime you brake you'd hear this high pitched squeal. I've seen this on older cars. Best remedy is to take some light sandpaper, and to rough up the brake pads and the rotor surface, both sides. Don't need to resurface (turn) the discs, not needed, just rough up the surfaces enough to get that glazed surface off of it.. I'm betting that's the problem with your car is the braking surfaces (disc/pads) are glazed..
Then use stoptech's approach to seating in the brakes. Which is basically going up to 50-60mph then getting on the brakes without turning on abs, but not stopping, going back up to 60, doing it again. That should seat in the pads accordingly. I've seen other tc'ers that have brakes that aren't as effective as they should be, it appears our brakes like to be treated rough from time to time, then they are fine.
So try that, a dealer should've tried the ol' sandpaper-rough up the surface method. But doesn't sound like your dealer is that resourceful.

bump.. hey paul_mnly.. so how about trying what i suggested? or having a good, decent dealer try that to your rotors and pads? rough them up with some sandpaper, and see if the squeal is gone.. let us know
