sell me...

sell me...
okay. here's the deal. i need a new car. my chevy caprice classic police package is not daily driver material. it needs a lot of work that i can't reconcile paying for, because once it's running well again, it will still suck gas like a vacuum cleaner. i live in an apartment complex, so keeping it and taking it off the road is not an option. i love that car, but my economic and moral stance on using that much gas is killing me inside. howerver, i love this car. it's so powerful (5.7L V-8, ~270hp...) and so roomy. still runs very smooth. just not economically feasible.
i really like the way the tC looks, and the features and such. i'm seriously considering buying this car. but i want to know what you LOVE about this car. not just the generic "i like it" comments.
give me the subtle nuances that make this the car for you. maybe stuff you didn't even know about when you bought it. what can't you live without now that you've had it in your car? what makes you excited just to drive it?
SELL ME!!!
DISCLAIMER: before anyone says "use the search, n00b" i searched for "subtle nuances" and came up with jack. i'm not going to search through every post on the forum for the gems... post them all here, so there's one place to look from now on...

Why do you need us to sell you? Are you that naive and influenceable? If I gave you good reason to jump off a cliff you would do it?
This is a car that we all obviously enjoy. Read as much as you can and quit being lazy. There are no cliff notes hehe. Go read a review from numerous professionals that have driven/tested this fine car....
use the search, newbie.
that better?

i've been reading for the better part of the past two weeks, and all i've heard are "my hatch rattles" and "i can't get into reverse!!! i had to push my car backwards!!!"
i want to know the small intricate details that you fell in love with in this car. stuff i can't read in the manual, stuff i can't get in a test drive. use some artistry and inspiration. tell me that you love the curve of the dashboard. something!
and you don't really have to "sell me." just give me something to think about. jeez. sometimes i hate getting on new boards, because of jackholes that think they have some right to shart all over people because they have a couple dozen "me too!" posts under their belt.
oh, if i put some smiley faces on there, would it make it all better?

Some of these might be in the manual, but they're the little things I love.
Go sit inside one and feel the texture of the dash... I don't think you'd find hardly anything like it.
The rear seats recline. Yes, they fold down (60/40 split), but they recline.
When you turn the car off, you can still operate the power windows and sunroof until you open the driver's door.
If you leave your lights on and turn the car off, they will automatically turn off when you open your driver's door. They will turn on again next time you start the car.
I'm sure there's more... but that's some stuff that I like. Some other cars may or may not have this stuff, but to find it all in one vehicle?

thanks, ack154... some of that i've read already... but the texture of the dash - that's what i'm talking about. subtle nuances that i wouldn't think to check out in a test drive. great input... i have a mental note to check that out at my next test drive.

First, Freakazoid rules. Too many have forgotten that guy. So props on that.
Now to the topic at hand. I could seriously go on forever and ever about the things I love about my car. Let's start at the begining, shall we?
My search for a new car was simple. I wanted a 2004 Toyota Celica GT-S 6-Speed in Spectra Blue Mica. That's it. No other car would do. Long story short, there were absolutely NONE in the entire nation. I did an extensive search on my own and still found nothing...or when I would find one, it had JUST been sold. Sucks for me. Anyway, I gave up after a while and became depressed that I wasn't gonna be able to have my car. My friend mentioned the Scion tC (which wasn't out yet, btw) and at first I was like, "How could you..." but then I realized I was being stupid and decided to look into it. I researched the car on Scion.com and compared specs to the Celica. The tC had better specs overall, and more options standard. Of course the tC doesn't have the horsepower that the GT-S has, but it does have more torque. I looked at tons of pictures of the tC and began to fall in love with it. I loved how the front end reminded me of a Nissan Skyline and the headlights of the BMW 3 Series, the side reminded me of an Infiniti G-35 Coupe, and the rear...I dunno...could be anything. I loved the lines of the car regardless. They are smooth and flow perfectly. After spending about 3-4 days looking at this car online and in pictures, I decided to go down to the dealer and order one. I was kinda nervous doing so since the car hadn't even come out yet. I'd say about a week passed and I got a call from the dealer. There was a tC there on the lot that I could go and take a look at. I got there as fast as I could. I was sooo nervous at this point.
Am I going to like it? Did I make the wrong decision?
I got to the car dealer and laid my eyes on the car. OMG...how gorgeous. I was very impressed. Sometimes pictures are deceiving and don't give you the same perception as what is in real life. Well, the pictures didn't do the car justice! It looked way better than in the pictures. The one there on the lot was a Black Sand Pearl, and I of course ordered the Indigo Ink Pearl (kinda close to the Spectra Blue Mica of the Celica). I checked out the car and was soooo happy that I had ordered it and that one was on the way for me. It was such a relief and yet such a feeling of excitement.
I love everything about my car. There really isn't one thing that I don't like about it. I love how the interior plastics are made to look like rice paper texture, the radio is made up of all buttons, the gauges are a brushed aluminum, the air controlls are all buttons except for the temperature gauge, it has a gated shifter on the auto, the seats are comfy and kinda hug you when you sit in them, the fabric is 2-toned and sporty, the rear seats recline!, there is tons of room for the rear passengers (although I don't care 'cause I'm never gonna have to sit back there lol), it's actually a hatchback that is designed to look like a coupe, the tail lights are all red, it comes stock with 17" alloys, etc etc etc. I cannot leave out my freaking awesome sunroof(s). I love the fact that I don't have to get one of those plastic deflectors to take away from the lines of the car. It has one built in that pops up when you open the sunroof! Not to mention it looks freaking cool when it is open. The ride of the car is awesome, too. It's not too soft, but it still feels sporty. I've added a rear sway bar, so it handles turns awesome now.
I swear I'm rambling on, but I really do love everything about my car. I wouldn't give it up for the world, and it was definitely the best decision I've ever made.
If you have any specific questions or concerns, don't be afraid to ask. I, at least, would be glad to help.

hey, I am not the freak that wants to know a car like some sex doll... like it is some S&M quest to satisfy your senses....
You talk as if you want intimate relations with this vehicle. You creep me out.
The purpose of a car forum is usually about problems and complaints to get solved rather then praises all the time on how great it is. Car forums are the worst place to go most of the time for positive reflections. You are either going to read bad things or the same broken record that is truely bias to how great it is. Again, go read an unbias review or gee wally why don't you go test drive one?
subtle nuances? please. Go drive one and find your own. I was laughing at the fact that you did such a ridiculous search. ... subtle nuances... funny!
I'll give you my nuance. I got this car because a person that knows what a good deal and a great design in a car will appreciate the tC and get one hands down.
The noobs like yourself that can't make a decision without holding onto somebody elses hand will hopefully look past this great car and go rot in a honda.

i thought the purpose of the car forum was to discuss all aspects of the car. didn't know it was a service bulletin board. you're right. seeing as how this is the only place i looked for information on the scion tC, maybe i should look at other sources of information. oh, my bad. i already have. even did a test drive.

oh, wait a minute. go f yourself. just because i'm new to the board here, doesn't mean i'm new to the internet. i'm not holding anyone's hand, and all i asked for were some things i might not have noticed in a test drive or read in a review. if you have any artistry in your soul you must have something that you love about this car that's not a "feature" or "specification." just let it out, it'll be cathartic.

If you are nit picky about little unexplainable cabin noises. Than this car is not for you. Although I love my car and its features and value, I am slowly starting to NOT enjoy driving my car. I had no noises at first, but at 10,000 miles the noises are driving me crazy. at about 9,000 miles, my car developed the infamous hatch rattle that I have scheduled to take in to the dealership next week. Some may consider it minor stuff, but it certainly takes away from the new car experience.
I know that didnt exactly sell you, but you should hear about the good and the bad. Hopefully if you get an 06 all these bugs will have been worked out already.
Oh and if gas mileage is important to you then the tC is great. I drive normally and have gotten as high as 32 MPG on highway.

IMO the car sells itself. if you don't wanna go to a dealer, wait for an auto show to check it out. if you are looking to be convinced to buy this car then you don't want it. the second you set foot in it you should feel like a kid that just got a 10 speed. that 'it's new and i love the way it feels' feeling. the appointments on the car are variable, so set it up the way you like. never, and i mean NEVER buy a car that doesn't make you smile when you get in it. it's a waste of money. i still get in my tC with my girlfriend and make the statement 'have i told you i love this car?'. she laughs at me every time, but she knows i mean it.
my favorite nuance is that i can be driving in heavy traffic at 70 mph, pick out a pattern to get out of the thick parts and make it happen. a few seconds later i'm ahead of the pack, back down to legal speed, and not on the brink of shooting someone for driving 45 in a 70. not a super fast car, but it accelerates well and is geared well. i only have good things to say about my tC and i can't make you feel that. if you don't feel it when you sit in the drivers seat, this isn't what you want.

that said, i've only gotten to drive the thing for like, 10 minutes at a quick "round the block" setup test-drive way back when i was just thinking about the car. i'm going to set up another test-drive this week probably. i'll get to have more impressions from that if i get a lot of feedback from this thread... also, it was only an a/t, and i'm looking for the m/t...

Dont go by the complaints of rattles and such. If you look the people having issues are a very very small percentage of the people on here. Plus, no one posts "My hatch does not rattle", or "my sunroof does not creak", so you are hearing the bad only. Mine has 18000 miles without any issues. Rides good, handles good for the price (handles even better with the trd springs on), the interior texture is great. The auto calibrating gauges are cool, you can actually get to things under the hood (important if you like to work on your own like I do), you can remove the front headrests and lay the seats flush with the rear and recline the rear so you have one large recliner, sound system sounds great for a factory system, panoramic moonroof, I get complimented on it at least once a week still (three times this week), great balance between sporty and comfort, roomier in back than most small cars I have had and most importantly (especially to an engineering geek like me) it looks like they actually put some thought into the overall design (access panels to the tail-light bulbs, space under hood etc).
