okay im getting my car ready for my gf prom so i have to wash the car. I'm using all meguiar's product. Before i had use meguiar nxt gen wax before so should i wash that off first then do a new wax or what?

This is what i was planning to do

1. Wash car with dawn soap
2. Clay bar
3. Wash with meguiar's soap
4. Paint Cleaner
5. Paint Polisher
6. Wax with nxt gen
7. Tires shine
8. Vacuum/Interior

What do you guys think?

skip the dawn. just wash it with the meguiar's shampoo, clay it, then wax. the clay bar will take off any of the previous wax. i'd also recommend vacuuming the interior before you wash it. the polish isn't neccessary if you're using the clay bar imo.

the polish is just cause i use to do machine car wash so im trying to remove the swirls. Also i had used a dropped clay bar and now my paint has crap stuck in it is there a way to get it out? cause i clayed it over that spot to see if i can remove it and it did nothing

wash off? i use meguiars also, and when i need to shine mine up - like how i'll be doing for united - i'll just wash it, use some tech wax, tire shine, vacuum interior, wala.

i don't go into paint cleaner, etc. there's really no use for it since i keep up on my car. but for prom... are you showing your girl off or your car? i wouldn't get THAT into it. i'm also lazy, lol.

So you put your tC through an automatic brush washer? If so, depending on how dirty the brushes were will make it tough to remove deeper swirl marks. Bucket o'water and soap in your driveway is teh rightway. Take your time when attempting to remove the swirls for sure.

Please don't. It'll strip off your car's clearcoat. And don't forget Meguiar's Ultimate Quik Detailer spray. I Love it! Don't forget to only use microfiber.

Clay will NOT take off all of the old wax. Dawn WILL.

Do it just like you listed. Clay works MUCH better after using Dawn or a similar dishwashing liquid to remove the wax. You are pretty much wasting your time claying if you dont use dishwashing liquid first. Clay removes particles, it is not there for stripping off wax.

Clean with Dawn (and it will do nothing bad to your clearcoat)
Clay
Wash with meguaiars, wax, etc. like you had listed above.

The key here is that you are not claying the car all the time. Typically once per year is more than enough. So you are only stripping the old wax off with Dawn once per year, so you are not damaging the paint, as long as you are not leaving it on till it dries. IF you wash it with that soap every time, you will wear the finish out sooner. I clay my cars once per year, and that is the only time I worry about using dish liquid soap to take the wax off.

i wash the car w/ some professional car soap, TWICE just to make sure its all cleaned off, and then i clay bar, then i use 3 different stages of polish/swirl remover, then i wax twice and finish up with a sealer.

its from all the dirt that the clay bar picked up...when i dropped the bar and started claying with that same dirty bar it pretty much put the dirt back into my paint and now it is stuck in there. It is so bad you can feel it and see it clearly. It ugly and i would like to know how to remove it asap

he meant wheel wells.

You need to clay again with a clean bar.. you basically embedded dirt back into the cars finish by the sounds of it.

And I still do not agree on the dish soap. I have personally clayed a car (or part of it) after washing with car wash soap, only to have the clay bar glide right over it and leave the contaminants. Wash the same car with dishwashing liquid (after which time you will notice the lack of wax and shine ) and clay again with perfect results. I have never had a commercial clay bar do a great job without doing this step first. The key is waxing directly afterward.
