And yes... clean and dress it... you will hate when you spend all that time detailing and take a good look, only to see dull, dirty wheel wells, which stick out like a sore thumb on a shiny clean car :D

i haven't tried it myself, but i heard that using a dish washing soap will do a good job of getting all the old wax off.

Take it to a professional detailer with a good reputation and see if they can help you.

Dawn's performance will depend on the degradation of your current wax layer. If it's been at least a month, maybe it'll strip the NXT off completely.

Either way, if you're planning on using a paint cleaner AND a polish, you definitely don't need to use Dawn to strip wax. The cleaner's sole purpose is to remove everything that's not paint which is wax and random contaminants that are too small for clay. Also, like Paul34 said, Dawn doesn't have the lubricants that car soaps do. Lubrication is the primary washing power that car soaps have (ie, if you wash your dishes with car soap they'll be free of dirt but they won't be clean enough to eat off of.)

Basically ditch the Dawn step, wash the car with the Meg's soap, rinse it off, then use the remaining soap solution (two bucket method, make sure the soap solution is clean!) as the clay lubricant. That way you can just rinse off your clay lube, rather than have to wash the whole car again.

Microfiber mitt. Doesn't really matter the brand.

Engifineer, my white car gets these orange rust-type spots on the car all the time. Is it really going to hurt it if I clay it again? It's been about 2 months since I did it, and at the time I was still driving around in winter's leftover salt and sand, and all kinds of stuff is stuck to my car again.

Claying again won't hurt. The amount of clear that clay removes is miniscule even compared to finishing polishes. It really only removes the little bit around whatever is contaminating your paint.
