Should I trade the 07' FM for an 2000 Audi S4?!
Ive been thinking about this and would like someone else's opinion on the matter. There a few pros and cons. I am buying a new house and it would be a little nicer to have a little less of a car payment. My buddy just got an A4 quattro and with the 20in of snow we just got last week it was quite nice to go through it rather than plow it with my lowered TC. Just wondering if anyone knows anything about the S4's. It has the 2.7 TT motor that I have read to be a rather bullet proof motor. I found one for sale locally that looks kinda sick. Although it has 90k on it rather than the 24k on mine. But on the other hand my payments would be $40 cheaper and a whole year less of a loan. Im undecided.

dont get an audi witht that many miles. 3 friends of mine all recently bought used audis with over 90k miles and their engines dont last long at all. also with it being twin turboed, those thimgs are gonna be toasted very very soon and comepletely mess up ur engine. They are very high maintanance especially with that many miles and are a ton of money to fix. keep the tc

my manager had an A4. He just recently traded it for a Jeep Limited. He loved the car a lot but he had it in the shop pretty regularly, and german cars arn't cheap to fix. There was always something wrong with it

I agree with not going with the A4.
I've heard, not 100% sure if it was the A4, or another Audi, but to do a timing belt job on it, parts + labor = just about $3000
I don't believe in "bullet proof" anything. Its all about how the previous owner(s) maintained there vehicles, and on certain intervals, things need to be replaced. It just so happens, those $30K++ German rigs, when it does come time for serious maintanence, it costs a arm + leg just to maintain. Audi's, Bimmers, Porchae's, etc. ... there all nice cars, fun to drive , but tend to be money pits like incinerators- up in smoke.
If you want something that would be great to go through the snow, start putting away some money every month, buy a early 1990's Toyota 4X4 regular/X-cab = $4000 , done deal. Then you'd have two vehicles, one to fall back on just in case the other is in the shop, etc. ... plus the truck you can help people move

1. german cars are rediculously unreliable. and are a nightmare to maintain, and are expensive to pay for a competant mechanic to fix it.
2. buying a used car is like buying somebodyelse's problems
3. you have a perfectly good tc, why trade it in for such a questionable car, especially when your going to buy a house. seriously, $40 bucks a month is not a worthwhile savings when you factor in things like gas (turbos are thirsty), insurance, (more expensive to fix, sportier), and reliability (vw and audi have extremely low consumer confidence).
4. why do you mention the color of your tc like it makes a huge difference?

This has nothing to do with the original post, but I saw a sweet R8 today. Anyone else seen one? I don't know how long ago that baby was released - I guess a few months ago - but this is the first time I've seen one in person. It was parked outside Starbucks in Palmdale, CA this morning. Gotta say, that car looks even better in person than it does on tv. It was smaller and lower than I expected. I just wish I could afford one.

I didn't know the R8 was released yet. That thing is sick. As far as the s4 goes... well they're very fun and luxurious cars, but I would say nay to 1 with 90000 mi. Like the above post says they are very expensive to maintain.

Go for it. People only hear of bad news. Many people have put much more time and distance on their Audis and are going strong.
B5 S4s are extremely popular.

At the 1st Nissan dealership I worked at, Audi was next door. The Audi techs stated that Audis are great up until they go out of factory warranty. After that, they're POS cars cause they require ALOT of expensive maintenance and upkeep...be forewarned!
