Sirius Reception Sux - Suggestions?
#21
This is an installation issue and not a problem with the service. The FM modulator, now called the FM Direct Adapter is not an issue in this situation, as you are using the Aux In.
You need to get the antenna up and out of the car. The pics above would be a good spot. One problem there though is that the DOT Micro antenna shown above, is magnetic and designed to be affixed to metal. It uses the metal as a grounding plate and will help the reception. To affix it to the glass, I would recommend trying one of the other style antennas that aren't magnetic.
You can sometimes find on eBay, a Sirius antenna that is designed to go inside the glass. It's called the SIGMA - Sirius In-car Glass Mounted Antenna. They were producing them for Nissan for a while. I use one in my wife's van and it works great and makes installation easier. It wouldn't work on my Box, because the windshield is too steep. It mounts up behind the rearview mirror.
For great Sirius Related info, check out www.siriusbackstage.com. They are like ScionLife for your Sirius, plus a great Howard Stern forum. I know someone has posted pics of their tC install there...

Thanks for the info. I looked on ebay and the sigma antenna is about $50. Thats real expensive for an antenna. Is the reception really that much better on them?
I didn't work on your box, but you think it'll work on a tC?

Not many realize it, but the rear hatch cargo cover (that connects to the rear seat head rests) has a metal bar running across it I have mine on that because I don't want the antenna outside on the car. The receptions isn't as good as locating it on the actual car outside, but it worked for me, and I am pretty sure it is better than being on the dash or glass, cause it does need a magnet.
I am planning to install the Toyota Sirius kit today (with the windshield mount antenna because I keep the Plug/Play at work now. Hopefully things get better signal wise and not worse.

i dont really have any problems (cept for the trees and underpasses) and mine is all on the dash... lol, i just wound the wire cord up into about a 1 ft. long roll and i tuck it btwn the dash and the glass and set the receiver right on the driver side... almost always works for me, barely ever run outta reception unless its once again, freeway underpasses, going under bridges, through forests or ordering mcdonalds... lol
