Default so i just got flashed...

Well yesterday driving to work in bev hills on sunset streets a yellow lights turned red and i did not make it. I got flashed by those red light cameras! Theres no way i would have slowed down in time and i would have probably been hit by the car behind me. So as i wat for the ticket in the mail has anyone fought this in court? any success or suggestions? cuase i dont think this thing is fair, ive heard that they purposly put these things in places that would make money! anyway any input would be great. thx

I have heard that a lot of these get challenged and thrown out. Private companys set them up for municipalitys and they all share the cut. It might depend on where you were when the light changed. There is always traffic school.

There's nothing you can do until a ticket arrives in the mail.... which means one may not arrive. I've been caught by them a few times driving through West Hollywood and never got a ticket. Red light cameras are like a new toy: cities play with them for awhile, but when they break, they basically ignore them.

If you do get a ticket in the mail, they are very difficult to get thrown out, they get your front and rear plates and your face. Unless you wear a gorilla mask while you drive, there's basically nothing you can do but pay the fine or do traffic school.

The tickets will get thrown out if it can be proven that there is something wrong with the camera etc. Somewhere over here in the IE a bunch were thrown out when a challenge was made. I will try to do some research.............

Here's a good one. Look at the bottom of the article. It is about a product you spray on your plate so it can't be read by the camera....

Sorry--can not find the old article I read about them throwing the tickets out.

If they calibrate the traffic cams correctly, there's not much chance of arguing your way out of it. I have a friend who's a state trooper and he explained the whole, "I had to run the yellow...I wouldn't have had a chance to stop." thing to me. He said that the lights are set so that the yellow stays on long enough for you to stop or prcoceed on through as long as you were going the speed limit. If you couldn't have stopped without skidding into the intersection, it means that you were speeding when you approached the light. Bottom line....if they want to be pr*cks, they have you.

Yep, there is not really any way out of the yellow light thing 99.9% of the time. Those cameras must suck, we dont have any yet that I know of. But a post below has got me wanting to come out there and drive around in a gorilla mask with some spray on the plates

crunchytc thats gotta suck... I have no real advice for you becuz it is kinda cut and dry. Like matt_a said aout his state trooper friend... if you couldn't stop you were speeding and I also know that they have enough delay that you can make it through those things have got to suck. My town "Vero Beach Florida" just recently put in about 5 or 6 of those on the most heavily ran intersections and luckily I have not set one of them off yet. What I say is you must pay to play. Everytime I do a WOT run I know there could be a PoPo anywhere but I realize what I am doing and admit to my mistakes so me personally I would just pay the thing off.

1. drive cautiously when approaching a 'stale' green light

... well.. ermm... that's all I gotta say? Most the lights are based off weight censors... if you see no one ahead... and lots of people to the left and right, you're most likely going to hit a yellow. On another note, do yourself a favor and let off the gas and not speed towards a red then stop... it's plain and simple, you just save more gas that way... I see way too many (shall we say) 'ambitious' tC drivers on the road (I personally call them douche bags), swerving through the lanes, speeding...cutting me off... only to hit a red light. Speeding: you save a couple seconds (at most), put others and yourself in danger, waste gas, wear breaks.

I call BS on that one, tickets here in baltimore usually get thrown out BECAUSE the yellow suppose to be on for 5 second but it usually stay on for less than that causing the redlight camera to get people. A news station did a report on it and they found out about the short yellow light situation.

Anyways for those that are in baltimore heres a list of redlight camera intersections: courtesy of a friend:

RED LIGHT CAMERA LOCATIONS

The Phase II cameras are digital. They will send you a ticket with a
picture but you will also be given an ID number where you can go online
and watch yourself running the red light. They look like glass bubbles
and will not flash as you go through the light. There was an article in
the Sun paper.

Just be careful.....

I used the methods in ticketassassin to fight my wife's case and won. give it a try, you've got nothing to lose.

basically, if you saw it go red, you were at fault. if you were under the light, you might have a case, but that's really close. if you have proof the person behind you was following closely, you might have a case...hopefully they're somehow in the frame with your car.

You cannot get it thrown out and you will lose if you fight it! When the cameras first came out, it was easy to fight and win. But now they check with Dept of Transportation and ask for the records of the cameras and get a second set of evidence. So your only chance is that it doesn't come in the mail.
