Because the 350Z is a great car for the price and it looks great! It has quite a bit more power than a tC (unless its turboed of course) and doesn't require tuning to be fast. Not everybody wants to tune, so that can be for them. The 3.5liter v6 is powerful and smooth. Since its naturally aspirated, it has no turbo lag and no risk of blowing an engine nor sacrificing longevity for power. I can keep going....its a really fun car. MY question, is why has it become more popular than an evo for example. The 350Z can feel slightly more luxuious, but not nearly as fun to drive as an EVO IMO.

Although I would personally NEVER buy a used manual transmission car. The 350Z the way i'd want it is closing in on 40K,so thats quite a big difference. You have to be willing to get a used bottom of the line 350Z for the tC and be prepared to take on more car payments as well.

Well the 350z is a popular car right now. As Spect says, it has power, smooth delivery, 6speed, and when used 20-30k miles, it can be had for as much as some people paid for their Tc's new. That is one of the reasons why I did not add any extra things on my car, cause I knew I wanted to mod it. I'd rather mod a Tc and SLAUGHTER a Z then have a Z slaughter other cars. Makes more of a statement to me.

People go for 350Z over Evo or STi because the Evo and STi are just played out. Sure they are great cars, even though the Evo's interior leaves much to be desired. So many people drive those 2 cars.

Look in just about any import car mag and you will see an Evo, STi, or both. Although the 350Z is quickly reaching that level of import mag favoritism. Once it does, maybe then people will start looking to something different. Like the new Skyline, or that ultra cool and powerful Scion that hasn't been thought of yet. Time will tell what will come next. For right now, the 350Z is the import worlds "Upgrade-to" car.

Wanna know something funny? It's actually the Supra (yes the 94-98 one). I can't believe how many covers I STILL see that car on, and it has not been produced for over 7 years LOL. Tells ya something about that beast!

But you're right, it is a fad car right now. I get bored of seeing 13 second passes at the track of evos and stis and 14 second passes of z's. I like the challenge of tuning a car that starts out at 160hp and can get up to 300+.

I don't at all think evos or stis are played out. Other than at a show, i've only ever seen ONE evo on the road. I've seen a couple more stis, but not many at all. I've seen WAY more 350Zs. I honestly think that all 3 cars are very popular among tuners, but outside of the tuner world, they are not very popular cars at all.

same here! G35 is way too common! And the 350Z seems to be more popular than the Sti and Evo.
Heres the thing, if you mod up the tC to be 300WHP, well, how long will that engine last? Sure it's nice to have bragging rights and be able to compete w/ more expensive cars, but it's always better to start w/ a better platform IMO.

I can't argue with you on that!

I think I see about an equal ratio of all three, STi, Evo, and 350z...

Yup, plus, no matter how much whp you manage to squeeze out of a tC, it will always be FWD, and will always be a car designed for about a max of 200 whp.

These other cars are designed FOR the power they have, they're designed to be driven to the limit, etc. Their chassis, suspension, etc is all designed for this, not our cars which are really just made to be a daily driver type car.

The 350z is ok, but I've always considered it more of a touring coupe, not really so much a super performance car. Now the STi or Evo on the other hand, well, now that's a whole other story!

i havent really seen any High HP sti's, its mostly evos thats get all the love when it comes to tuning.

as far as the Z/G they are alright, but the VQ wouldnt be my first choice when it comes to boosting, that thing is weak. i would say it can push out maybe 400-500hp max before something breaks.

i still think, that my favorite car of all time would have to be the 3000gt vr4, that thing will kill any of these cars.

Man I see all those cars everyday. It seems that all the teenagers have the evos and stis that mommy and daddy bought for them and they drive like they are the only people on the road. The Z's out here are usually driven by the people in their late 20's early 30's and they usually don't drive that bad.

Wait, you just hated on the Z for having a "weak" engine that can "only" push an extra 200hp on a stock engine before something breaks...and then you got all hot and sweaty for the 3000GT, on which half the components break pushing stock power. Nice. The 350Z's engine has been highly praised for how durable it is with stock internals, by the way.

Don't get me wrong, I love the look of 3000GTs, and I love the interior, and I love the driving dynamics. But have you ever actually owned one? I have, and it spent more than 50% of its ownership in the shop before it got traded in for a tC. They're a nightmare. I know 350Zs to be very reliable and require about as much maintenance as a tC does, but with over double the performance.

The 3000GT will not kill any of those cars, by the way. It weighs, at a minimum, about 500 lbs more than any of those cars, with, at maximum, ~27 whp more. 3000GTs are way too heavy to be competitive. Plus, it has to run to be able to race, and it only runs about 40% of the time. So good luck with that.

And the Evo is always going to be the tuner's choice. It has a real engine.
