Just put the car in neutral and hook a toe strap to another car on the highway and coast

Change your air filter at least every 10k miles.

I changed the filter in my friend’s car and it had at least a solid ½ inch of dirt, bugs, leaves etc. She’s the original owner, has 100,000+ miles, and didn’t even know engines have air filters Improved her mileage by at least 50%. Note to self… don’t buy used unless they have a maintenance log…...

put 3 oz of pure 100% acetone in your gas with every fillup. you should get about 5mpg better hwy mileage.

I actually tried this on my previous car, a '91 Tercel. Made no difference in mileage, but it did run better.

its really particular that you use 100% acetone. finger nail polish remover usually has benzine in it which actually makes your gas mileage worse.

also, you will only see a difference at light throttle (cruise) mileage. anytime the computer is monitoring the a/f via the o2 sensor.

also, your engine has to be in new condition. it's not going to help your 78 trans am get better mileage! but id did change my srt-10 from 12 mpg to 16 mpg which isn't much but as far as percent goes it's a good increase.

good luck!

2 sounds more realistic IMO, 10 min idling is a lot of gas

that was true back in the carburator days. but it doesnt matter to me, I leave my car idling when i get gas too! lol engine wear at startup is more important to me than the .01 in gas im using to idle.

Never known that to be good for the car to leave it on, but that might just be due to the possibility of sparks and what not. I thought NASCAR and other race cars were designed to be fueled on the run like that, but never thought it was ok for a regular car to do so with so many CEL codes possible due to fuel and emissions being thrown off.

5th gear at any speed over 30!

Throw it in neutral when you are coasting to a stop

Do not accept heavy passengers.

Doesn't the CEL come on in tCs if the gas cap is loose while the car is running?

It should do that in any car equiped with Fuel Injection I would believe. Since there's a CEL for the gas cap, I would assume that to be true.

In my TC with no cats on the car...87 oct. gas *$2.29 in Ohio and doing 80% highway and doing my best stay right at 3000 rpm (65mph) I get 348-365 on a tank. No there have been trips where I did much 55mph and pushed over 400. The TC when cruising over 3000 RPM drinks gas.

I know...I should have a cat. Full true exhaust has none. I do think I have loss too much low end torque and have a high flow cat sitting in my garage while I think.

Later

P.S.
I run air most all the time. High speeds with windows down is worse than AC being on. Vent gaurds with windows cracked..not as bad I would imagine.

Hell, thebest tank i havehad in 3 yrs was 340 miles. 80% freeway (not highway) average speed 80mph at 3100rpm. I fill up every 5 days so i do drive alot. 80+ miles to go to school and come back. Mybest tank ever was when i broke the car in adn that was 450 miles driving at 60 90% freeway.gas here is 2.59

edit: worst mileage ever was 180 miles on a full tank

this should read "Don't throw it in neutral when coasting to a stop" When you're coasting in gear, the computer shuts off the fuel injectors if you're above 1500 rpm. if you put it in neutral, your injectors are sprayin!
