I'm on about 700 miles on the tC, no sunroof issues to speak of (knock on wood). Allthough it hasn't rained yet - it looks like it may today. We'll see how it holds up then.

I have the same snap noise on the roof, no leaks and no damage though.

In my post I neglected to include Scion's phone # to use to report this issue if you are experiencing it (I STRONGLY suggest you call this # IN ADDITION to going to your dealer):

Hi all,
I had my dealership check out the snapping noise I was hearing. One of Toyota of El Cajon's techs called their Toyota support line and found out that this is a known issue. The tech "torqued the bolts" around the moonroof which is supposed to fix the problem. So far, I have driven about 40 miles and it seems fixed. I will let you know if the sound reappears. -Jayme

if you folks experience those creaking sounds, i would definately recommend you buy a hotchkis strut tie bar for the tc. this way it reduces body flex.

The bolt thing sounds great - hope they stay put.
I talked with a Scion sales rep who went to a regional training about the tC on Wednesday. According to him, the Toyota/Scion official position from the trainers was:
1. Toyota will treat this as something that's annoying, but not a problem to be fixed
2. No safety issues are caused by glass flexing - it's "normal"
3. If it bothers you, install the strut brace to reduce the body flex that's causing the roof noises (I know the previous post said this didn't matter - please direct flames to Scion and not me - this is according to the dealer returning from the official training).

BTW, Kayden is not the guy I talked to.

I've asked a manager at another dealership and he is asking his District Mgr about this. I'll post when I hear.

The bolt news is excellent. Please let us know if the fix sticks.

hmph, didnt I post something like this before? it only makes sense... glad you got it solved...
People need to take it easy with the issues and try not to go histeric without real insight into what the problem might be

Since only few people reported it, out of all of owners posting on forums, I very much doubt it is design or part issue.

If you do have tC with the issue, I suggest you take it to the dealer, let them know of the issue and test drive it with them.... probably nothing that bolt tightening wont be able to solve...
So far it seems like you made a good call on that one spwolf :D . -Jayme

GOOD NEWS!!!

Toyota is well aware of this problem and they are working on it right now. The problem is the front two screws on the sunroof are not fully tightened. Soon, dealerships will know what to do when a note is sent around telling them what the deal is. Have no fear, it can be fixed!

Thanks for update. Wonder if the screws are tightened on most tC but not on some? I have not heard it yet and driven 200 miles. But at least if it does happen, hopefully tighting two screws will be easy repair.

My scion tc is coming in monday, should I ask them about it then, like ask them to tighten the front two bolts when I pick it up.

I am making an assumption here, either:

1) You have not driven your Tc under the conditions that causes the noise, or

2) The Japan assembly person that built your Tc used the right torque on these 2 bolts.

My gut says that (1) is the probable answer since Toyota has very demanding assembly specifications which I assume include torque specs.

Maybe the Japanese assembly dude/dudette for the affected Tc's had a hangover?
