Default Stock tC Dynos... 2AZ Underrated?

Check out the dynos here: http://newscion.org/forums/showthread.php?t=315

Seems to indicate the 2AZ is underrated...

typical toyota where their performance numbers are always underrated. the 2ZZ was the same way 180hp at the crank but it was putting down 160-162@ the wheels. usually drivetrain loss should be 15 to 18%, but toyota seems to always show in the 10% range. i guess they have mazda disease just reversed.

and this is a bad thing by reporting LESS power and actually having MORE? lol.. that's a very nice surprise..

so what is it really? 10hp more? funny that I saw the toyota documents of the power.. it was at about 160.. but they're saying the dyno is reporting 170hp instead of 160? let me know

I wonder why 19s had 1% or so more hp? Some crazy light wheels maybe? Stock wheels are a little heavy, but not outrageous.

That's the 3rd dyno post and all are in the same 140-150 range, which is cool. I wonder what auto tCs are putting down. And if there is a difference with TRD muffler - these are dynos that are not up yet.

It wouldn't surpise me. This engine in both the Camry and tC feels quicker then it should be.

would make sense that there is more power in this engine than what is reported.. i've driven 160hp engines before.. and this feels more powerful than that.. so another 10-15hp seems likely..

i think toyota was doing that to avoid the gov't looking at it differently.. GM used to do this and Ford did to back in the 60's with the whole muscle car race.. and they got away with underrating it..

i am glad that they gave us more and surprised us.. it would've ticked me off if i found i was getting less than reported.. but nice surprise

autos and manis will put down same numbers on a dyno, but the auto will be slower because of gear ratios.

very good that these tc's are putting down near 150

Drivetrain loss on an auto is higher, so numbers should be different.

another thing people should see out of this is that the car dynoed probably has less than 3000 miles. so, a tC with more miles should do a little better. i dynoed my gts stock @5k and again @12k with and without the cai. at 5k i was getting anywhere from 157 to 160whp and at 12k stock 160 to 163whp.

Lighter wheel and they actually had much lower profile tires so the total diameter barely changed.

False, drivetrain loss is greater on an auto than on a manual.

Whoever told you that doesn't know what the hell they are talking about.

I love how much torque this car has (Not that I get to experience it daily, because I don't own one yet )!

What sort of 1/4 mile times are people getting in this car? I'm not talking perfect situation Car & Driver results, Im talking about real world experience. I've heard 0-60 results from 7.2 up to 8 seconds (ouch).

Car and Driver says 0-60 is in 7.4 secs
1/4 mile in 15.7 secs

I think one reason why the bigger wheels could have "more power" is that the axle is still spinning at the same rate but the wheels have a larger circumfrence. its like a record or a cd, the outside of the disk moves faster than the inside. i'm not explaining this very well but hopefully u understand what i mean.

i would say any stock car is underrated... with the dyno test im pretty sure any car does not hit near actual HP and torque. ofcourse
