Default Street Legal Scion tC?

I looked around the forums and couldnt find anything about this but I was told the max Horsepower you can get and keep a Scion tC street legal to pass smog and all that is 250 and I was just wondering if that was correct or not. Thank You!

it all depends on how you do things.

as far as i know, the supercharger is the ONLY legal way of getting any kind of real power.

if you dont care about being legal or not, then you can do whatever you want, but to ever see close to 250WHP, supercharger is the only way to go.

I' ve got the dough to do what I want to it but im gonna be driving this thing for more than 5 years and thats how often scions have to get smog tests and I was planning on the TRD Supercharger, CAI Injen, and a Greddy EVO2 Exhaust as far as performance upgrades go I was wondering if 300WHP would be possible and still street legal if it reuires a better item for something like quality I dont care I just wanna know what it would take if its even possible thank you.

Well with the Injen intake, you already lose the ability to stay "street legal" No intake for the tC that Ive seen is CARB Exempt.. which means no intakes at all for the tC.

Same thing goes for any headers (they remove the cat)

they wouldnt put it on your car and warranty it if it was illegal. They would tell you that its for off road use only...

go to trdusa.com, download the parts catalog. The tc intake is 50-state emissions legal.

no gentlemen. there is no CAI that will pass CA smog. (the visual).

A TRD CAI is as illegal as any other CAI in CA.
The only legal intake upgrade is the TRD supercharger. No CAI will pass visual.

thats what i said.

and every smog check place i've ever been to was more concerned about getting their 50 bucks. they couldnt have cared less about any mods, as long as the computer says it passes.

.... no matter how illegal the fact that they will skip the visual, he didnt ask if it was a part that would pass... he asked if it was street legal.

I just did some digging and according to TRD Sparks the TRD intake is NOT street legal

http://www.trdsparks.com/displaypart...2&parts_id=681

Im not trying to argue, just pointing out that not many parts can be done to achieve the power he is wanting while still maintaining being street legal

Now what im going to say now is going to make me sound like a d!ck but I dont mean it that way.

If you are asking if you need a supercharger to go turbo, you need to do some research. The supercharger and turbo charger are two completely different things. The supercharger from TRD may LOOK like a turbo (and it basically is) but it is different being that its driven by a belt rather than exhaust gases.

I say read through and find out as much as you can before you make a mistake and end up having to pay a lot more for a new motor or paying for something you dont need.

By the way, What is your "Ultimate" goal to get out of your tC?

Just a little FYI, trd makes 2 versions of their intakes. The one on trdsparks is the off road use...

Look it up on trdusa.com
