I can get 500hp and still be street legal. Thats because I live away from the car ***** (And actually somewhere with cleaner air as well :D ) and dont have to pass a smog test So the solution is to leave cali and mod away!

The ONLY, I repeat, ONLY CARB exempt intake for the tC is the new version from K&N for the 05 and 06 tC. But it's not even really a CAI. It's more of a short ram that uses part of the stock airbox.

See here: http://www.knfilters.com/search/prod...rod=69-8608TFK

And then here:
http://www.knfilters.com/search/appl...rod=69-8608TFK

No TRD intake is CARB exempt.

As for everything else... Sucks to be in CA. That's about it.

Look it up on trdusa.com
TRD makes a CAI for Auto and one for Manual, neither are CARB approved.

Seeing as every CAI for the tC are from California-based companies, I guess we don't suck as much as people think.

there is only one legal intake that you can get and that is a k&n short ram intake

A TRD CAI is as illegal as any other CAI in CA.
The only legal intake upgrade is the TRD supercharger. No CAI will pass visual.
LOL visual? wont they just test it on the machine anyways?
Of course certain CAIs will pass the breath test, but CA testers are required by law to also fail based upon visual inspection if there are altered components. For the purposes of this thread I wasn't including testers willing to commit fraud; I was discussing what is "legal".

We all know there are smog guys who will pass "any" vehicle for the right amount of money or there'd be no turbo tCs driven in CA.

I was talking about legal mods and these need CARB Certification. I remember back in 05 Turbonetics was doing their damnedest to try and get it. I sold the tC before I heard how that came out....MIAPLAYA can probably fill folk in in that regard.

There is no max on horse power as long as you pass emissions. My friends dad has an 800 HP monster I dont know what it is. He drives it around all the time.

You do know that you're not in Cali right?? I know of quite a few people around me boosted and have engine swaps in their cars, just don't get caught driving dumb and there's always a place that'll pass just about any car that's in driving shape. I'm waiting for word of the release and pricing of the World Racing turbo kit. Till then I don't think it's worth buying a header and intake since boost is my aim, yet I might do intake anyways.

And to the OP, I don't know too much about Cali but if you're into hooking up cars and not have to worry much about driving it around the streets, it's better to "Just Say No" to doing anything regarding power mods to the car. It's much better to be out of the state, their car crushing for street racing does nothing to stop it.

Yeah I know...I figure I can always find a place that'll pass me. At any rate...I don't have $5k to spend on my tC right now!
