I'm pretty sure those windows were smoked.... the bad way.

They are dark cause smoke does that to windows, thus where the term "smoked windows" came from... golly.... genious at work

That looks JUST LIKE MY tC!!! Temp tag and all! Holy crap, I hope this isn't going to start a trend. I smell a possible recall coming, maybe.

AWESOME pics!! Sad that it happened, but still awesome.

I will second that, I am a firefighter and cars do not blow up! Tires are cool when they explode though. Seen alot of car fires before and the gas tanks never blow!

It can, depends on a lot of factors, I'm sure.

(The only gas tank I ever saw blow was a VW bug that had flipped on an icy freeway on ramp and rolled a short way down a hill. The car stopped upside down, driver was unconcious, and the car was burning, so we cut his belts and dragged him about 40 feet from the car, where we wrapped him in blankets and kept an eye on him until the fire department and medics could get there. Just about the time the first fire engine pulled up the tank went. Wasn't all that big a 'whump,' but it got our attention. Driver was army, and was taken to Madigan. He had bruises, scratches, and a concussion, but no permanent damage. I never saw my USAF blanket he was wrapped in again. )

You would be right. Some show (Mythbusters, I am guessing, but it may have been Top Gear) did a bunch of crazy stuff to a gas tank and NEVER GOT IT TO BLOW, even when sitting in a huge puddle of burning gas. They talked to some engineers in the automotive industry familiar with this stuff and they said you had to be really, really unlucky to have this happen. Even if the tank gets ruptured, chances are that it will just burn.

Not that this all really matters, at that point the car is totalled, and if anyone were to be inside the car, they'd be gone quickly inside a burning car.

They are not as dangerous as TV and movies would lead one to believe.

Damn that sucks if this is real. It just kills me to see a tC catch on fire. I pray it never happens to mine or anyone elses. I hope that doesn't ruin the person's experience w/ owning this great car. Why couldn't it happen to the new Si?

This has happened to me once when I owned a '90 Taurus wagon. You gotta love Ford transmissions. I also saw a clip of an old jetta catch on fire on youtube.
