It's real for sure... no doubt about that... the high quality of the pics and the detail is absolutely clear... I'd love to know if anyone ever figured out what the problem was to cause it, but I doubt we'll ever know.

what a horrible thing to happen... hope that dude is ok! so freaky...
and that first pic is freakishly pro... did anyone else notice how freakily and perfectly the flames are reflected in the driver's side mirror?

The flames are big, bright, and tall, just like that photo. I see what you mean though, that photo is crystal clear.
Long story short, the part of the fuel pump or hose on my friend's VW (older Rabbit, I think) disconnected, and started spraying gasoline all over the manifold. And WHUMP, flames started licking around the hood, then spread.

I noticed this thread mentioned how people stopped to stare at the car on fire. Is it just me, or is the general public just really stupid about emergency situations? When I friend's car was on fire, I specifically remember people stoping to gawk, and other drivers trying to drive around the BURNING WRECKAGE on a two-lane street. It might have just been because I was in Irvine at the time, but it was also shortly before the car rolled backward and up on the curb.
No offense to the starter of this thread. Those are amazing pictures, and everyone was out of the car and presumably at a safe distance.

I crack up at all of you saying a 'recall' should be done. This is the first time I have seen or heard of this happening. It's gonna take more than one S'mores starter to get a recall. Thankfully, nobody was hurt. (Other than the owner's ego and feelings.) Hopefully we'll get the full scoop on what happened.

Racall????
I didn't see that post.... there are many, many reasons a car can catch fire... and it could be something as simple as driver error to a misinstalled fuel line that snapped off...
I bet we'll never know, unless that random owner comes on and posts about it, and someone is able to find out what caused it...
I just hope it wasn't cause they didn't have enough storage room and stored their propane tank and tent in the engine bay... (Ever see that vid... it's hilarious)

nice pics...do you have a better resolution so I can use it as background?
I can put some cash that this happened from a crappy audio install. Has to be. Toyotas do not just burn down all by themselves. My condolences to the owner.

I agree as well... I bet it was owner/driver error on install, or something simliar... always some random thing though....
The first pic is decent enough quality for my laptop screen... I love it as my new BG.
