I know this is a question about another car but I own a tC and I want to get the opinions of other tC owners. Please do not move. Im trying to get alot of tC owners to see this.

I own a 2005 scion tC right now but have always wanted a MKIV Supra. As I was looking to buy the tC, I was also looking at a 93 supra N/A. I was going to get the supra but in a long story short the seller screwed me over and I ended up getting the tC cause I needed a car pretty quick and the tC is a real nice car.

Ever since I bought the tC I have continued looking for a Supra (3 years). I think I finally may have found one that I might sell me tC for and buy. It is a 94 n/a.

The Supra was daily driven by an older man and was babied, it is completely stock and all the maintenance has been kept up to date on it. It has high mileage but all the timing belt, alternator, water pump. ect... has all been changed. This is what i have been looking for.

The supra is my dream car but I am wondering how reliable the supra would be for me being high mileage. Im kind of concerned because I will be going from a 2005 tC with 36k miles on it that i have had since it was new, to a 94 supra with over 150k miles on it. Im going through college so a reliable car is very important to me. If I were to get the Supra i would continue to baby it just as I have babied my tC.

The tC is an extremely reliable car but I would love to be an owner of a MKIV supra because it is my absolute dream car. I know the 2jz is an incredible motor and is extremely reliable. But how reliable would the supra be? Do I have anything to worry about?

Im going to see the car and drive it this week so Im trying to do all my research before I get there.

I wish I could own both, but being in school, It would be hard to own two cars, financially and i would have no where to park both of them. So two cars is just not that practical for me right now.

the new car is odviosly going to be WAY more reliable than something over 15 years old. in every aspect

if you cant afford to fix the supra if something breaks dont get it

the n/a 2jz-ge is pretty bullet-proof! and if maintenance has been kept up to date, its most likely as good as new!

if you test drive the car and everything feels great (like it should in a supre) then i would go for it especially it being your dream car!

ive heard of people boosting 2jz's way after 100k miles without problems!

just to be on the safe side i would do a tune up after purchasing, cuz you never if anything was left out!

thats what I was thinking the 2jz is pretty much bullet proof. If I drive it and love it like i think i am going to, im going to take it some where to get inspected to make sure everything is good with the car. Yea and I was thinking if I got it I would do a tune up to get everything running good.

As good as the 2jz is im still kinda iffy about going from a car with 36k on it to a 100k+ car.

And I would have the money to fix something if it were to break that wouldn't be a problem, I just cant afford two separate cars at the same time.

you're in college. you need reliability. wait until you can afford two cars to get one. there will be more chances. you're still pretty young...

Don't ever trust a seller, figure out things for yourself. Do a compression check, those are easy to do and quick, do a visual inspection on wheels, suspension, and check for any oil that might be leaking, if these things check out then it will be a good deal. BUT if their are some problems with it, take my word for it they are expensive to fix, and insure, even if it is N/A. I am very partial to the supra, I love them too. Just protect your butt, and good luck, it already sounds like a sweet deal.

toeveryhour: thats why im kinda stuck in the middle between the two . But the deal id be getting is what i have been looking for. so thats why im stuck in the middle.

beandip007: yea I was going to do all those things. I was going to take it to a dealer to get inspected and everything. The owner has all the records and paper work on the car. but i was going to check out all those things before I made a decision. yea im going to make sure i dont get screwed over, Thanks man hopefully everything works out.

You're in school, keep the tc. It's reliable and fairly new. The supra is very old and will more than likely have some type of problem(s). Seriously this shouldn't even be a question. School > project car (which the supra will turn into).

If you can afford the upkeep, payment, and insurance I say go for it. The longer you wait the less MKIVs will be left so you'll end up paying more.

i appreciate all the responses, its helping me weigh out the pros and cons of buying it or keeping the tc. when i go up to see the car it will help make my finial decision along with an inspection from a dealrship.

Mike i will come down there and steal it if you get it you know that right. You also wont be getting anymore calls from Scion Customs because you'll have supra not a scion hahaha.

BUT in all seriousness, if you can afford it, and really want to do this, do it. Dont let this get away. My roommate has a 65 stang and is constantly working on it, but it is his only transport. when i ask his if he regrets he says never. plain and simple. you need to think about what you want and if you want this, go for it.

hah sid if everything works out ill still do that photoshoot just not with my tC. I mean i would still be in the toyota family. To be honest I dont think I would mind fixing small stuff here and there because it would give me something to do. I just have to make sure that everything is in good condition so if i got it i wouldnt get hit with a huge repair a month after i had the car. Im doing alot of research to make sure I wont get screwed over or anything if it works out.

NA supra is not worth the money unless it's under $10k, just saying haha
