Default is the tC really 160 hp, because I heard...

I've been reading around on different posts and different sites about the dyno testing of the tC. Some said that the test came up with the tC being around mind 120s and low 130 hp. Is this true because I thought it was 160, I mean thats what the dealership and the commercials have been saying.

160 at the crank, not at the wheel.

120/130 hp is AT THE WHEEL...that's the actual hp you're putting to the ground. you have 160 power, but the transition from the motor to the wheels loses some power.

dyno tests read out the hp you put down to the wheels not the crank. the 160hp scion says their cars have is from the crank. when you go dyno your car it tells you how much hp you are really putting down. of course you are going to lose power from the crank to the wheels.

Manufacturers always list a car's hp at the crank. They should just rate it with drivetrain lost.

besides, some cars lose more HP than others.... if they gave a WHP, it wouldn't be accurate to all. For the tC, I've seen dyno runs from the high 20's to the mid 40's

many many cars are underrated, and many many many more are overrated. Some for insurance reasons, some to hide numbers from the competition, some to keep model grades consistent (ie Camaro SS vs Corvette), some for the ol' Japanese Gentlemen's agreement.

Every tC dyno I've seen works out to 160 hp or more at the crank. The 160 hp factory rating is probably 5-10 hp low.
