Default tC SUNROOF WARPED and UNDER WARRANTY

Let me just start off by saying that anyone that is interested in cars is cool with me, but we fellow "Sciontists" are truely the most creative and innovative car connoisseurs out there.

I am the proud owner of an 05 Scion tC, bought in back in 04 and one of, if not the first tC to be delievered to a customer in Seattle, WA. Happily my tC has driven me across the entire US. As an Industrial Designer and Artist myself, I am in love with the ideas and design of this sports car.

However, just recently the glass sunroof on my tC has started warp, not allowing the glass to sit flush on the rubber seal, and creating a god awful screaming whisel at 25 mph. Despite having traveled across the US, my tC still has under 20,000 miles on it. So I jump on SCIONLIFE.com to see if anyone else has had, or is having this problem. "THANK YOU SCIONLIFE AND FELLOW SCIONTISTS" I found that a few other people have dealt with this. I review the warranty information, and blammo, IT IS COVERED UNDER WARRANTY, the three year 36,000 mile basics section.

I took my tC into the super fantastic service people at Scion Of Orlando and they are ordering a whole new sunroof. That is true customer service.

That's good news! You should've come over to courtesy toyota though

But I do have a question... I found this stickied on the front page under news. Also, I would hope the dealer would honor it, as it is obviously a defect. Did other dealers turn you down or something?

that is really good news, because my sunroof is beginning to do the same thing...and the weather striping on the front portion likes to pop out from time to time....it took me forever to figure out what that whistling was...

Actually, yes a dealer did turn me down. I did not want to post bad news but it was Courtesy Scion that told me that it was a "sunroof issue" and i should go to a sunroof specialist. Just yesterday. So, if you work there maybe you can let Jim or James know that it is a problem that is under warrany, thanks.

Another happy and satisfied Scion Owner. A few or a lot has been replaced due to this issue. No worries, it's covered under the warranty.

is that the 3/36,000 mile warrenty, or the 5 year rust corrosion warrenty? i am just turned over 36 k this week, i haven't had this problem, but now i'm paranoid!

that would be the 3/36k warranty. The moonroof isn't part of the drivetrain, so it wouldn't be covered under the 5 year warranty unless you bought an extended warranty that would cover it.

Hum... does anyone think fast cornering would add to stress to the roof to a bad degree? I often tend to come into turns far too fast (my fault!), so I usually end up with quite a bit of body roll around most 90 degree turns. I also am totally stock with my suspension so you can only imagine how much body roll I have.

i had issues with the tc sunroof the first day i got it. i took the tc to both courtesy scion and scion of orlando. i had a total of 10+ visits to them because of the sunroof issues. the sunroof would creak, rattle and shake at 0mph, 15mph etc. you get the point. It got old real quick and now my tc is long gone, but i sure do miss it though

OT: oh yeah, if any of you guys ever go to the courtesy scion service department. be sure to bring a digital camera. In the drop off area, on the ceiling, there is a very large fan. when the fan isn't running and if you look directly under the fan(at the center). there is a label that will read... "big ___ fan" lol

Where did you hear this information from? I gotta check it out in school computer if scion techs gets a TBA to replace it. The problem is that i have like 45k miles so no warranty. Does anyone know if the new glass is better or the same crap? Maybe replacing it wit kaminari carbon fiber wind deflector would be better. I do have a whiste noise and drives me insane plus a rattle from it, i think its just the wind deflector deforming, not the sunroof?

ihave the same problem too but mines doesn't even want to open. When I'm pressing on the open button inside, you can hear the motor grinding and even moving inside my headliner . I have an 05 too but my warranty is long gone since my car has 65k on it, so thats money out my own pocket if I decide to fix but right now theres no sense in using since its frickin 15 degrees outside

I have access to the main toyota tsb for all their vehicals, i researched the "warped sunroof" in the tsb and no results. So if you go to you scion dealer they ill look at you like you got 3 eyes about replacing the glass under warranty.

I used the TOYOTA INFORMATION SYSTEM(TIS) and ALL DATA and ON-DEMAND, nothing on the replacment glass, only about the rattle.

I had this same issue with my sunroof a few weeks back. They had to do some adjustments on the sunroof, I think they had to take it off to make them, but they didn't have to replace anything. They did replace the headliner though, it wouldn't stay attached at the middle of the sunroof.

In conclusion to my original post, I have had a brand new glass sunroof installed in my tC. Once the dealership ordered the sunroof, they received it within a week. It took one full day to install, but I was kind enough to let the guys have it for three. As far as I can tell, the new sunroof is of better quaility than the previous one. The roof works great and super smooth, no whistles scream or howls.

Default Sunroof problems..whistle at 25mph

This is a short video of the problem I am experiencing with my tC sunroof. I am not under warranty and I would liek to fix my problem myself b4 taking it to the dealership! I think I may be having the same problem...but I am not sure it is warped, my roof glass. I do know that with "little" pressure, such as in the video below, I can press my sunroof up, form inside. In other words..when my sunroof closes It does not compress the rubber sill around/under the glass sunroof. I knwo my driver side is very loose, like it does not pull down sunroof all of the way, MY QUEStion is... Is there any way to tightin my sunroof..so it compress's harder, and would it be possible for me to do this? Lastly, is there an alternative? like weather strip? thanks! I think the dealership was going to charge like $80 or more just to look, not nec. fix! *(SORRY I COULD NOT POST THE VIDEO DIECTLY IN THIS FORUM, BUT THAT LINK IS VALID.)

Yea wait till you hit California for customer service...took me 5 weeks to get floor mats...I eventually told the guy I bought the car from and he went over there and verbally _____ slapped the guy into a coma and figured out they where there the whole time and they didn't want to give them to me because I was young or some lame excuse like that.
