Is the tC too heavy?

Is the tC too heavy?
I think the most common critasism of the tC is that is too heavy, but after looking around I dont think it is.
Scion tC (manual): 2925
Acura RSX-S: 2778
-only 148 lighter, basicly one passenger lighter, and I have not heard anyone complain about the RSX's wieght.
Hyundai Tiburon Base: 2940
Hyundai Tiburon V6: 3023
-Even the base Tiburon wieghs more than the tC, and once you throw in the V6 it still only has 170hp and 181 torque.
Mazda 3s: 2762
-Still only a person (163 pounds) lighter
Honda Civic LX coupe: 2538
-While the Civic is noticably lighter than the tC, it also has to be light because it's engine only puts out 115hp, 110 torque in the higher RPM range.
Toyota Celica GT-S: 2500
-This is the only car that is noticably lighter and has similar numbers. But I think the tC and the Celica are very differant cars and the tC will turn out to be much, much more roomy on the inside.
Basicly what it comes down too is that the tC is not heavy for the engine they put in it, If they did put the 2ZZ-GE I think the car would have alot more trouble because of the way the 2ZZ-GE has its power in the upper RPMs. [/b]

I think the glass roof is just some of the extra weight but I think its heavier because the body is reenforced more because it does have a mostly glass roof. Just like a convertable, the body is reenforced more in case of an accident. So this way, toyota, or scion cant get in as much trouble if someone tried to sue.
Not sure if all this is right, but it does make sence and this is why i think it weighs more.

would the tc have weighed less if they went w/ the traditional sun/moon roof? i would've preferred the tc w/o the glass roof being standard as its bumping up the price needlessly, but I can see from a business stand point why they would make it standard, as that kind of thing attracts attention. One thing I wonder though how easily it is to vandelize as being all glass roof is just asking some punks to throw rocks at it, etc.

2925lbs shouldn't be too bad with the 2AZ. the camry 5spd in motortrend did 0-60 in 8.4secs and that weighs 3142 so the tC weighs 217lbs less. its not a lot but 217 is still 217 lbs. i can see the tC doing 7.8 to 8.2 sec 0-60 and high 15's to low 16's in the 1/4 mile. with those kind of performance numbers it would compare to the celica gt and base rsx. if someone gets the trd s/c, performance should be closer to a stock celica gts and rsx-s and if someone gets a boost kit with a shorter pulley i can easily see 230hp. if you still want more power, header and exhaust should add another 20 to 30hp at the crank so 250-260 at the crank is very possible. plus the 2AZ will be very boost friendly with 9.6:1 compression ratio.
it would've been nice if the car weighed under 2800lbs but imagine for less than $22k the car could be pushing 260hp. with 260hp i can see the tC doing low 14's in the 1/4 with a few more mods to the transaxle high 13's which would be sweet. it would be the ultimate sleeper.

I don't think it's too heavy for what it is.
The glass is probably not that heavy as some mentioned, but it's not the lightest thing -- but I like it the way it is.
If it has the Camry engine, shouldn't its weight be compared to a Camry?
The Corolla, my guess is a lighter platform.

the bigest reason why Tc is so heavy is because of its ultra long wheelbase 106+ inches long, and only 173 inches of total lenght. Thats longer than some midze sedans (teh full size tauras is only 2 inche longer in wheelbase). WHat does this give you? Well rear leg space for one, plus the less overhang, more stability and handling. Look at the Mini Cooper which also has very little overhang and its a blast. Basicly overhang makes for worse handling, ever wonder why teh impala handles like ____, well it only has 4 more inches wheelbase to 27 more inches of car, or Crown vic with 8 more inches of wheelbase and 41 inches more car. You do get a bigger trunk with more rear overhang, but since Tc is a hatch there will be enough.

its not heavy cause its based of a sedan, hatches tend to heavier than conventional sedans, its heavy because its based of a MIDSIZE sedan, which hopefully transaltes into good rear room and cargo space, if they dont mess it up in the interior design department, the Tc will be one of those "small on the outside, huge on the inside" cars.

i think the glass roof is pretty tite and wont make much difference in weight...also very unoriginal esp since everyone is accusing scion of coping body features...the only resemblence i can see is the bmw headlights i guess and maybe the skyline front...everything else is all scion...they get the props
