Default tC & the XRS

Other forums have the opinion that the Corolla XRS's engine doesn't have enuff torque and here opinions are that the tC dosn't have enuff hp. Almost seems like scion peeps would like the Corolla XRS and the Toy peeps would prefer the tC. Of course this is without the SC on the tC. Interesting, eh?

Corolla XRS/2ZZGE 170HP 127 FT-LBS
tC/2AZFE NA 160HP 163 FT-LBS

Edit: Added corolla in front of XRS to specify that I was talk'n about the new corolla XRS and not the Matrix XRS.

Looking at those numbers I would take the tC. HP is easyer to get with add ons than torque is. That is, if I decide I want more power.

Default lbs/ft

All that matters in my view is Torque delivery. Unless you truly care about max speed... 160 hp is enough for a >115 mph max speed on the tC.

Lotas lbs/ft are more funt to play with!

the weight of both cars are almost the same. the 2zz performs like the 1zz until lift hits. torque is the one thing that really matters though.

Because of the torque I'd get a tC in a heart beat. The engine will be faster to 60 and last longer. Also the tC is far cooler look'n and with more standard features. Unfortunately I can't get pass the glass roof. Sun roofs and the equivalent are just not me. Prolly haggle a dealer for a cheaper GT-S or go with the Corolla XRS. *shrug*

Edit: added Corolla to XRS

you can get an xrs for about 19-20 depending on where you buy it and what options you get. they are nice and fun to drive.

I'm going to wait until I drive the tC before I say anything....I thought the xB wouldn't have enough hp based on the specs, and once I drove it I was sold.

I'm not going to make the mistake of jumping to conclusions again!

I'd love a celica--if only it didn't cost way more than it was worth once you put a livable amount of options on it. As such, the Tc with all those standard features for a good price seems like the way to go off the bat.

Ummm. :?: So after drive'n a Corolla S and a Celica GT-S you put together your impressions of both and determined that the Corolla XRS, due out may 1st, will be nice and fun to drive. Right? :D

i have a matrix xrs and a corolla and the lift in the xrs makes the car very fun to drive. without the lift it wouldn't be as fun.

yeah XRS is fun to drive. the surge is awesome when you floor it. and the revving engine kind of makes you feel like stepping on it all the time. but its missing torque.
(this is speaking of one without mods)

if only the Tc offer leather and AWD add say extra 10 - 20 torque, i would not mind
the weight and i will definetly buy the Tc no question. even if it is to cost 20000 - 22000 without SC.

I guess the AWD only matter if you live in a place where there is lots of snow,
just hate it when all those car with AWD just drive through the snow with
no problem.

I just want tC to have:
leather
heated seat
telescoping steering
AWD
10 - 20 extra torque
xenon lights

that would be perfect.....
if they do that. i am telling you, no one will buy TSX or RSX or mazda 3
and might even substitute WRX for tC.

love the trunk space in XRS and have helped me so many occasion
to carry stuff around. open it, the trunk, load the stuff and close it.
simple and easy. unlike most hatch back which are little too long.

Dear toyota,
can you please make tC like that.

wishful buyer.

the awd will have more power loss then a fwd and be heavier. i like the idea of the telescoping steering wheel. mazda did a nice job with that. i am sure leather will be something offered by the dealer like it is with the other scions.

yeah the awd will defintely make the car heavier and will cause
some lost in power, that is why I would like the extra 20 torque
if it have all wheel drive.

cool, if the leather is offered that would make the car feels a bit
nicer inside. I am not big fan of leather but it does make the car feel
nicer.

the telescoping will solve the problem with people who feel that the
steering is too far away from the seat.

just wishful i am ......

the corolla xrs and matrix xrs are the same thing. the matrix is just a wagon, but other then that it will be the exact same car.

Ummm, I know what ur say'n ikonXone but, there are quite a few differences between the Corolla XRS and the Matrix XRS and I don't just mean body style. The Corolla XRS's engine will deliver a broader and stronger mid-range torque than the previous versions of the 2ZZ engine featured in the Matrix XRS and the Celica GT-S. The corolla also will have a front connecting rod damper, a rigid steering column, a power steering rack, and increased rate coil springs and shocks on all four wheels (Matrix XRS had a twist-beam type rear axle). The Corolla XRS should be quicker and handle far better. :D

the 04 versions of the 2zz has the same 173hp engine as the corolla xrs will have, so they are the same.

a wagon or hatchback will usually have better weight distribution, so i wonder if a corolla or matrix would handle better.
