tC's Electrical Fire Caused by Cruise Control [HOAX]
[Mod Edit: This was an April Fools' Day hoax. It is not true.]
I just got off the phone with Gulf States Toyota talking about some club related issues, and I mentioned someone had an electrical fire and this is how he explained it to me.
So heads up to everyone out there, I know I'm guilty of never turning it off, but I'll start today.

The cruise control module used in the tC's has a short in it that if not turned off before killing the car can ignite and burn up. The culprit is a faulty resistor used in the circuitry of the unit. When driving with the cruise turned "ON" and then killing your car without turning it "OFF" there is a slight possibility that the board still holds a charge strong enough to ignite and spread throughout the dash. The Scion tC isn't the only vehicle affected. We have seen several cases similar including Tundras, Tacomas, Camrys, Corollas, and Siennas. During the month of April we will be doing a massive recall of all vehicles using this Cruise Control Module. To avoid an accident please turn the cruise "OFF" before killing the ignition. Let your club know to turn it off first too as we would hate to see anymore cases before we get the fix.

Are you sure this isn't Ford's we're talking about here? Eh never use the cruise anyway, I like having total control of the car.

I doubt this is an April fools considering that nasty melted
dash that someone posted here.
I hope I am wrong though. That's some scary stuff!

Correct me if I'm wrong but isn't the cruise control module under the hood not under the dash? Ford's just had this same exact problem and their module was under the hood.

c'mon guys.... even though this is april fools day, this isn't something to joke about. after seeing the pics of that guy's tC that got burnt up, this isn't one of those things to joke about.
guess ill have to call my dealer sometime next week to clear up the issue.

Yes, I know about it. I got the idea from a combination of that and Ford's recall. I had to make up some ____ to make it sound "official."

April fools jokes are funny and all, but lets not spread disinformation. There is enough of that here.

That's why I admited it was a joke. It would be wrong to let everyone keep thinking it. I was just sad reading all the weak attempts. I like April Fool's, check out my thread on my April Fool's day project in the Off-Topic section.
