^there are actual lb sensors on the 07s? ....im guessing you are talking about that. How does the sensor hook up if they are on the rim?

I had no clue the sensor was in the stem. Is there a pic of how its installed? Its not covering the stem is it? ....im doubting that cause that would be too easy to steal.

Those sensors average $50 a piece at the dealerships. They break easy too. I think the dealers make them so they break easy so you will only bring your cars back to them for tires. It costs the dealer like $1 to get them. If you take your car elsewhere, people are reluctant to work on them because they are so easy to break. The dealer doesn't care because they don't pay $50 when they break them

You can transfer them to aftermarket wheels, correct?

If you don't have them, or they otherwise break, what exactly happens? I know Squall said what we have to do... but I'm also curious as to what exactly would happen.

easy to break? dealerships get ahold of them for $1 ??

i DON'T think so....

they are not easy to break.. i've taken them out of the wheels before and transferred them to other rims.

the sensor itself is connected inside the wheel.. and it's part of the valve stem... on the outside, you can easily see how it's mounted as there's something that's screwed on to hold it in. you can easily tell on the outside just by looking at a tC's rims if it's an '07 or not

not the exact ones.. but the same concept:

https://www.scionlife.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=132535

they are transferable and need to be when purchasing aftermarket wheels.

it's not difficult... just need the right tools... that's all.

if you lose them or break them (on the off-chance) you'll need a toyota scantool that is used to reprogram the ecu to accept the new sensors.

Yeah i got a set of stock rims and tires with 300 miles on them for 500. no scratches or curbing. Plus I am local. If you can get insurance to pay for the actual cost of your rims you can pocket some money.

I see many Corollas and Celicas with tC rims.

Get yourself some wheel locks. They're like $15 a set.

Go to wheelmax.com

Sounds like you could scan the sensors and find your tires again - all you have to do is get a scanner and drive around near parked cars - proof you own the tire if the code is unique. Don't you all have alarms in your cars that go off if it is bumped or jacked up???

I didnt know it uses that kind of sensor? I thought it only detect the revolution on each tire? I put aftermartket rims on mine and the sensor still works. I just have to push it really long to reset it.

The 05/06 uses the sensors on the ABS system (wheel rotation), the 07 uses actual wireless pressure sensors.

Wow, that sucks... Yeah, I bought wheel locks before I actually bought the car.

The tire pressure sensor is for detecting low air pressure in the tire not for ABS operation - the tire being low will cause ABS problems because of its traction difference and rotation difference if under inflated. I have heard of some people here talking about getting low air pressure warnings in their TC because they have the sensor. Detecting tire rotation requires more resolution than the single tire pressure sensor could provide - needs to be a disk with many teeth on it.

I thought about buying used tC rims when I had my Corolla. I just didn't like having a "Scion" logo on the caps.

I got these instead:

Cost me $720 with brand new 215/45 R17s.

Too bad I left my steelies with the POS Good Year tires. I could've swapped them when I traded the car in. I guess they wouldn't look good with my BBM tC.

Yuck!
