Default TRD CAI for the 08 is not CARB Exempt!

so i ordered the CAI and no sticker was included, so i spoke with TRD and they made a mistake when filling everything out and only the TRD CAI for the 08 xB is CARB exempt...

what a waste of money...

Shoulda done some research. There are no CARB legal tC intakes.

Why don't you just return it?

That's weird. There's already an E.O. number on the '08 TRD CAIs (D-425-21)

2008 model year Scion xB and tC passenger cars equipped with a 2.4 liter engine

There are no CARB legal CAI for the TC's. Most short rams are. Moral of the story: CA is stupid.

The K&N 69-8608TFK SRI is, but only for the '05 and '06 tCs. I have an '07 so yeah, sux. I was hoping for the TRDs too...

i did do research...

checked the CARB site, and it has an EO, however, there was some error in the paperwork and its supposed to be only for the 08 xB...

can't return it cuz i installed it last night and hoped to clear it up today, but got news i didn't wanna hear...

when it comes to the law, you're gonna trust a government site arent you? they have it posted for the tC, which i guess is wrong...how was i supposed to know?

so don't be a dick about it...

I'm not trying to be a dick or start an arguement but here you go:

http://www.arb.ca.gov/msprog/aftermk...rmktdevice.php

http://arb.ca.gov/msprog/aftermkt/de...o/D-269-32.pdf

do a "find" on the page for "scion tc"... K&N has a short ram typhoon system with an E.O number...

Don't worry Don i feel ya... i got dicked a long time ago... bought a TRD CAI from the dealership before the 07' TRD S/C fit kit was released and was told it would be compatible... well as we all know it isnt... without modification that is... i dont really trust dealerships for any aftermarket parts... anyways just dont go bombing around in your car so as not to attract any attention...

Your not going to have to worry about it until you get a smog check.

I don't see the big deal, just swap it back to the stock airbox when you have to smog. Oh and Cali Emissions FTL!

i can see this being a problem when the time to get smog checked comes around. When installing the TRD intake, one of the installation directions tells you to cut and shorten one (or two, can't remember) of the hoses. This can be problematic when swapping back to the stock intake.

Huh? really? You had to cut some hoses to make the TRD cai to fit? I have an Injen CAI and all I had to do with take out the stock airbox and put in the CAI, no cutting or anything.... The only wiring that came out was the MAF and all you had to do was put it back in. I don't see any hose connected to the stock air box.

well look, you bought it with the understanding that it was a CARB exempt intake that you can legally operate in the US, so take it back with your receipt and get your money back. they mis-informed you.

the breather hose is what you're talking about...

the hose they're talking about is a different hose...
