i love the VW dashes... they are crazy bright too

i would say its safer to have someone do it... esp if you dont know how to solder... it would depend on where you go, how secure they feel about doing it, and how well you know them... haha like anything else... someone who can solder LED in their sleep would throw out a simple price for you... someone who is afraid they might break something will ask for more for insurance haha

Here is the way i changed my cubby hole light....its the easy way!!!
Open your passenger door and by the floor wall of the center console follow down and there should be a small hole there (where glove box meets the center console)...squeeze your hand through and you should feel two wires....jiggle the wires and see which one moves the cubby light.....the give a tug and pull the wire through the hole....pop out bulb and replace with LED....squeeze hand back through and push light back into place...with some force to make sure it locks into place....

here is another way:

1) Remove the shift **** and plastic base surrounding the shift ****.

2) Remove the center console.

3) Reach behind the center console and find the grey wire leading to the bulb in the storage compartment. If you pull back on the wire as it enters the storage compartment it will detach from the storage compartment.

4) Remove the incandescent bulb with your fingers.

5) Drop in the replacment LED bulb and reattach the wire to the storage compartment.

6) Reinstall center console and shifter base along with the ****.

I liked not have to remove anything...but if you are already in there it is easy that way too!!! Hope that helps...Good Luck

*Jason

yeah .. replace the accent bulb (194 wedge) in the headlight housing (below the headlight) w/ the blue LED (got them at http://www.koollites.com ) .. and it flashes when ya set yer alarm .. looks neat .. i always look at it when i set my alarm (for no other apparent reason then it just looks cool) ... heres a pic of the actual LED --

chitown, see lucid's diy here on that rear dome light: https://www.scionlife.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=53930

if you bought one of the led dome lights from autolumination.com or superbrightleds.com, they are 1.25" long, which equates to 31.75mm long, which is just a tad bit longer than it should be. it'll fit, but it'll be tight. just follow lucid's instructions and you should be ok.

the stock "scion security" alarm only uses the turn signals .. if u have an aftermarket alarm .. it blinks the parking lights .. sorry i guess? the accent lights are parking lights for the front of the car .. thats the use ..
