Default "Vehicle Shield Protection"

On the "build your scion" thing on scion.com I noticed an option for the tC that cost $349 called "Vehicle Shield Protection" and it entails, "Lusterizing Sealant, Sound Shield and Sealant Cleaner, Rental Car Assistance"

Just wondering what the heck that stuff is and is it worth it? Is it like a clear bra? Just sounds confusing. Any help guys?

Hmmm... extra coat of clearcoat? Maybe they listened to all the complaints about the paint sucking ***** and this is the solution.

Or maybe Vehicle Shield just makes your tC look like this...

^^ that's funny!
I wonder if that's the same stuff they tried to sell me when I bought my 07...they said it was like Teflon for the paint and it would never need to be waxed...umm yeah right.

If that's the case, why even charge for it? Unfortunately, the paint sucks on the tCs. Just apply it at the factory and be done with it. To charge a fee to 'fix' a sub-par paint job is just plain wrong. I hope the "VSP" applies to something else.

i actually fell for that when i bought my Ranger through my credit union. they also applied some stuff to the interior that supposively made wiping off spills a breeze and it was kind of like a scotch guard type of stuff....the cost was in the hundreds as well.

Just take care of the car and you'll be fine. Like wash, wax, dry and don't let dirt sit on it forever.

I was offered this as well for around $600 extra! Personally I didn't want it because knew I would be washing my car like every week as well as waxing + clay barring when needed. Only get this if you know you won't keep up with washing your car or waxing.

If it is a thicker coat of clear coat.. then thats just f'ing stupid to offer it at the lot and just not tack it on to the price.

I know there are a lot of Scion dealers on here, so can anyone give me a straight answer? I'd like to know.

Me too! When I told the finance lady that I had no problem waxing my car myself she said "I'd like to see that"! What a beyotch! Needless to say I sent her a pic of me waxing the car all by myself

Ok guys well I got the low down on this from another forum that I belong to. A guy on there is a Toyota/Scion dealer and was helping me with questions I had about buying a tC, so I asked him about the vehicle shield protection and this is word for word what he told me:

"It is an absolute waste of money. All it is is a special wax. It supposedly has teflon molecules in it. Some people may know it as a paint shield. DO NOT BUY IT. It costs the dealership about 23 dollars."

Spend the money on a clear bra and a pressure washer. I pressure wash every 2 weeks and only scrub the car down every month or so, depending on my mood. So I've had my car now for over a year and there's *zero* fine scratches from washing. Clear bra stays on fine with pressure washer, just don't go against edge of the clear bra with the spray.

I just baby my car with a wash every week or 2 and wax it every month or so. Winter is coming so I am using paint sealant instead of wax so it will last the winter (last 6 months) and I won't have to wax in freezing temps. That's my invisible shield baby! Plus it is therapeutic for me to do all this to my car. I go to the pressure wash car washes that have bays in them. I never use the foam brush though.
