i choose from one of these:
http://www.toptiergas.com/
mobil isn't one of them, along with valero, and for sure any of the cheaper gas stations
out of the list i typically go with 76, and if not, chevron.
i have noticed better mileage overall, and from what i've been told and experienced myself, shell is nice and clean burning, but doesn't yield much for mileage compared to the top two choices i suggest.
in the past, living on the east coast, sunoco kicks butt, and hey, they're on the top tier list too. (though mentioned only as the canada one? i dunno.. *shrug*)
but please, don't debate into the octane thing here, what is recommended and needed is only 87... but brand does play a part, so i avoid cheap crap gas stations at all cost.
yea... even with this stupid rise in gas prices..

Speedway for three reasons... (though i haven't seen anyone mention speedway yet. Perhaps a midwest/indiana thing?
1. they are literally every few blocks. I can usually fill up at one speedway and see another one or two down the street
2. Speedy rewards!! Racking up points to get a free gas card....or 100 cappuccinos
3. It's usually the cheapest

In before "I GO TO MOBILE ONE BECUZ ITS AMERIKUN WOOO YEAH!"
I go to whatever is convenient, except for those individually owned places. All I can picture when I look at those, is tons of crap sitting in the bottom of the oil tanker, then going into the pump . Not saying that happens, but that's just the way I portray it.

all of my vehicles get nothing but quicktrip. bp is my second choice.
i had an '01 4runner that i personally put all 118k, and filled it with nothing but quicktrip gas. at about ~98k i swapped out the fuel filter as part of regular mx for the first time since a new one was only like ten bucks. for giggles and grins i cut open the original one, and the darned thing looked real clean, as though it didn't even need changing.
only reason i'll go to a bp is because they're nationwide, so when we go on trips that's who i use. i don't care about saving a buck or so for a fill up, so cost doesn't bug me that much.
