What is a good rotor?
I had my car inspected today and was told I need to replace my front rotors and break pads already...well, price for all of that is 280 which in my opinion wasnt as bad as I thought it would be. However, when these things come up I find it a good time to investigate a possible upgrade from stock. I like the look of cross drilled and slotted rotors and cross drilled ones (but i dont know which one would suit a simple daily driver).. my question is what kind of life do these generally have? My stock ones have gone at 30k. And secondly what is a quality brand, I know nothing about this and if there is anything I should look for or stay away from let me know. Dont know if its important or not but I do drive through harsh winters so not sure if these rotors get ____ed up from salt. Thanks in advance.
Ive been looking on this site for reference.

Also what makes a good break pad? ceramic, metalic, im lost
Edit: also wanted to know how these after market rotors hold up ie. rusting etc, if they are coated etc, thanks again

well as far as pads go if you got nice rims stay away from metalic they throw off alot of dust and that stuff is a pain to clean if you let it sit. If you plan auto xing or any kind of aggressive drive then i would say you need to upgrade to a ebc pad or hawk and try to get a semi ceramic pad. And for rotors just get a slotted drill set and those should do you just fine. Depending on the amount of cash you want to spend you can get a TRD brake kit or a Wilwood Kit but as far as i know they are only for the front and they are mega bucks.

Centric OEM Rotors are the BEST...IMO.
At the time they were Hella Cheap like $34 per rotor..I heard they raised the price.
Slotted Rotors are good...YOU need a special Resurface Bit for those kind.

R1 Concepts are a great rotor, I've used them on the street and track.
But I recommend (and sell) the Premium series, not the Eline series.

Either one require somethin extra to install or can I buy these and give them straight to the shop, Also any disadvantages of slot or drilled? I read on google drilled rotors are weaker.

The advantages to slotted rotors are increased bite, pad scouring and gas venting. The disadvantage is increased pad wear. The advantage to drilled rotors is appearance (They do look cool). The disadvantages are decreased pad/rotor surface contact and cracked rotors. However if you spend big bucks and get rotors with the holes cast into them (like Porsche), they are much less likely to crack.
