hi guys... lol.. stupid topick.. i know but i need some help.... i got some luminics bulbs.. and i touched it just a little bit by mistake with the back of my finger....

i know my finger dont have too much grease on the back of it so i just wiped it off with my t-shirt.. and i didnt see any fingerprints whatsoever on the bulb. so i installed it.. it was good for 1 day and then it didnt light up..........

i checked it.. everything looks perfect.. i put it back and it was good!!!

but another day past and now its completely dead...........

everything looks fine.. i compared the two bulbs and i cant tell the difference..................


so.. if i touch it and install it what would happen?? the halogen bulb itself blow up to small pieces or what?? that little thing inside would broke ( same like the regular household bulbs? or what???

it shouldnt have blown up that fast... if anything, im guessing u installed it wrong? or maybe u pulled some wires? put your stock bulbs back on to see if its really the bulb problem

it has something to do with the grease on your finger. altho you prolly cant see it. its there. id say get new bulbs and put them in with some rubber gloves on. thats what i do when i have to put head lights in peoples cars

the harness ( cables) are good.. swapped the bulbs so i know the bul itself is bad

when u say blown up u mean.. phisically blown up or you mean burn out?? because.. i still dont know what happens to the bulb.. because the inside and the outside ( of the bulb ) is in perfect condition!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! so its just bad or it was my fault

even if you touched it a little,
it shouldn't die that fast
so basically the bulb was bad from the beginning probably

because i myself touched it by accident once but it was a clear bulb so i didn't care but it never died and i used it for a week or two then switched it to a different color...


so probably the bulb wasn't that good in the first place?

yeah, I did the same thing with my silverstars. I touched it with my finger (the front where most oils are) and then wiped it with my tshirt. It still hasnt gone out, and its been just about a year.


and trust me, I have sweaty hands hahah. Ask my gf.

a good trick, when you happen to touch them, alcohol pads or a paper towel with alcohol are used to wipe off the oils. When changing light out on soem aircraft i work on, you cant happen to touch the bulb, so we wipe them down.

That's mistake #1. I've heard and read soooo many horror stories about their bulbs.
I'd stay clear away from them if I were you.

Just a small touch can do ruin the bulb even if you wipe it off with your shirt. My pops made that mistake of accidently touching it & then wiped with his shirt. About 15 minutes later it blew up n the housing. Definetly wipe it down with some alcohol like others have said and let it fully dry before turing the bulb on.

Well dont touch the bulb w/ the back of ur finger then!....lol

I have Luminic's bulbs for almost 2yrs now...NO problems what so ever.....

when you tiuch bulbs your body creates an electrical current between you and the filament, and the iols also cause a major concern, but no to much, i have touched many culbs but if you clean them before install then you are ok.

ah, finally a question i am supremely qualified to answer, seeing as how i work with high wattage HMI (halogen) lights for film/video lighting everyday.

yes, its the grease/oil on your fingers. even if you can't see it, your fingers leave residue on the bulb. These lights get so friggin hot, it cooks the oil/grease and heats up the bulb glass so much that they crack and blow up.

very easy fix: alcohol swab. you could palm the entire bulb in your hand, clean it off good with an alcohol swab and it will be fine.

and wtf is up w/ Miami JDM's comment??!! ^^^^ ah, if you don't know the answer, don't just make something up that seems to make sense in your head. :D

thanks for the answers!!!! so as i see.. the bulb itself will blow up into pieces if i touch it and install it.. well.... this didnt happened to me so i will try to return it.. but the ebay guy wouldnt accept any returns so i have to order another set... maybe i should try the NOKYA jdm yellow bulbs? should i get harness set?

I wouldn't trust Nokya bulbs either, unless they have improved in the past 4 years. Both of my brothers have tried their bulbs (4 sets) and all of them burnt out within 2 weeks. Some of the bulbs even exploded in the housing. And no, they knew better than to touch the bulb. They bought them at Circuit City and Autozone.

HID!! =) it looks good on tc.. i have a set in mine and all i have been getting are compliments =) and people flashing me when i drive down the road.. iono if its cause i have custom deep blue and they're ____ed off or something else.. but i take it as a compliment =)

i am not a big fan of HID's btw. waste of money imo.

its not a definite that the bulb will blow if it happens to touch a small piece of your hand....its just pretty likely and definitely always recommended to wiped down w/ alkeyhal before installing.

HEHEE!!!! the guy sending me a new pair!!!!! im really happy because i was PRETTY sure i have to buy another set by myself ( it was an xmas gift from my wife)

so he didnt even ask me to send the bad ones to him.. and hes gonna send a new 1 to me!!

and on the auction page he says : NO REFUND NO RETURNS!!!!!! YOU OPEN IT YOU KEEP IT!

If you think you've touched it then really a forceful scrub with a clean shirt or cloth with do it. Alcohol is foolproof but running from the garage to the bathroom kitchen always seemed a tad overkill.

The problem ultimately is in the bulbs. Luminics, Nokya, those you can find at an AutoZone. If you're going with regular halogens at least spend 50 bones and buy a name brand. Personally, I've never gone wrong with PIAA. Ever.

luminics, nokya in autozone???? i dont know man........... im ALWAYS wanted to find yellow bulbs in autozone, pepboys, etc.. THEY NEVER HAD IT... i checked 5 different stores all the time.. they always told me to go online...

im gonna get free new set. i will try that if they blow.. i will get something else.. PIAA has yellow?
