Who here takes their car in for the the 15k,30k,45k SERVICE?
What do they charge you?
Are you happy/confident with the work?
My experience: Did the free oil changes, then paid for the 15k service.
I talked to a service advisor and it was a pain in the ___ to get through to him that I ONLY want what is described in the manual. This did not work. My dealer has these MINOR/MAJOR service flyers that are generic for all toyota vehicles.
Long story short, I paid 85$ and doubt they used the manual as a guide, but rather just gave me a generic ___ service. I think they only changed the oil and checked the brakes. He did not print a copy to give to the tech as a reference guide. When I asked specific questions afterwards, they did not instill any confidence in me whatsoever.
Why is it so hard to get them to do ONLY what is the manual?
My car now has 37K miles, and I have not gone back to the dealer since. I do all the oil changes myself, changed the brakes/inspect them myself. Need to get a hold of a service guide to inspect everything else. But I will not be going back to my dealer, it's a rip off and you are not sure what the dealer actually did.
What is your experience?
Any decent dealers in the IE(socal) that actually go by the guide?
Thanks!

i got something in the mail about my 20k service. I read in the manual that they change the oil, rotate the tires and change the filter? All those things i do myself. I do plan on taking it in within the month for some rattle problems and ill bring it up on if i need to bring it in. Im not paying for those things if i can do it all myself?

Thats the same experience I had at the dealer. After the first 3 oil changes i was unsatisfued and did everything myself.
Just got done changing my manual trans fluid to Royal Purple synthetic. Stuff like that they probly charge you an arm and a leg for. And who knows what your getting ,or not getting when they do it.
SL has helped me many times with DIY's.
Thanks again for the help!!

I don't ask my dealer what they are going to do...
I open up my little magic book that has the recommended list of items to be taken care of at each mileage check up and I tell them you are going to do these...
I pay you money, you do what I say
Seems to work...
If not, two simple words: your fired
You work for me, I pay you....

I never did the 15k, 30k, or 45k.....money issues.
I did do 5k, 60k. I know what you guys mean. Not all dealers are the same. Some say you need to do this right now while another says you can do it at 110k.
Look at these dealers from my local area.

I don't have knowledge or equipment to do them.
I don't trust Midas or CarX.
Did trust 10 minute oil change shops...turns out they were clueless about changing my transmission fluid. So..Good ole dealership gets my money and they haven't gone up to me yet "We don't have your type of transmission fluid" while I catch the so call tech looking at manuals, his computer, and couple of other techs trying to get the idea of what type and where?
I'm happy with the dealer...I only had one problem of "Can't do it, right now. But will do it next time." I think they knew I was upset at that since last time they asked me about the 60k in more professional way.
I can't afford for any major problems that may happen down the road due to 72 month loan.

My mom and I have always had good experiences at Longo Toyota/Scion/Lexus in El Monte and the newly designed Symes Toyota of Pasadena was pretty good too- straight forward and seemingly honest =]
As far as voiding your warranty- well, if you service your car yourself or have an independent mechanic service it (not a Toyota/Scion dealership) and you or the independent mechanic messes up your car or doesn't do something right therefore causing a component in your car to fail, then that does void the warranty on that part of the car-- in other words, you can service your own car or have an independent mechanic service it without immediate and/or direct adverse impact on your warranty, (assuming the services are performed properly, and any parts installed do not have a negative impact on the operation of the vehicle).
Also a thing to note, if you service your car at a dealership and build a service history at that dealership, when your car is outside of warranty parameters, that dealership and/or Scion is more willing to provide goodwill (meaning, offer to pay for all or part of an out-of-warranty service). Just a little fyi

Last time I went it for my free oil change, 12k miles, they said I needed to buy a new air filter, wtf? New air filter after only 12k miles? They wanted $40 for the factory air filter, so I just called AutoZone and picked up a K&N drop in for $43.
=] I'm actually about to guy and get my oil changed here in a bit too. 17k miles, bought the car with 50 miles back in April.

yea i dont think im ever gonna pay anybody to change my oil. ill do it myself, thank you. i mean ill take the car in to have the valves adjusted and other stuff like that, but im not gonna pay out the @SS to get somebody to rotate my tires and put a new oil filter on and change my oil. thats ridiculous.

I'm taking my tC into Mall of GA Scion tomorrow for it's 45k service, but I'm only paying $10 because I've already changed the oil and rotated the tires. So to me, that's worth it to have the dealer check it out. Plus I'll have them look at some other things as well, since it's there. And if anything comes back needing to be replaced, I'm pretty sure I have a garage full of tools and plenty of time to take care of it.

lol, the only reason why I take my car in to the dealer is because its "free" THe guys at the dealer go trough and always check up on all my fluids, tires, brakes etc. Then when I leave the mechanics leave little notes on the "check up list" so I'll take a look at them. Rotate my tires, replace my pads... etc
