Why is Geico so cheap?!

I love AAA for their travel services, but I refuse to go back to them after an accident that I had back in '00. Horrid case workers (note: PLURAL), horrid referrals to shops (estimate was 1/3rd the final cost and i had continual electric problems afterwards), and they kept phone calling me about getting my car repaired for FOUR MONTHS after I not only got the car repaired, but also cancelled my service with them.
I've been with esurance.com mostly for the price since then. If I switched I'd probably chooose Amica (high JD Power rating) or State Farm (had a really positive experience with their customer service).
Amica is CHEAP too for insurance. I've had several quotes through them for cars I've been thinking about purchasing and they've always been among the most affordable ones on the list.

amica is sweet but you need your liscense for 5 years to be insured through them and clean record for 3 years or they wont cover you, which is why they are soooo cheap for insurance...........because they wont insure anyone that has any possible risk.

They're generally loathed by people who enjoy responsible, spirited driving (and those who feel speed limits are set artificially low.)

I found that Mercury was cheapest for me and they give good service. 21st Century is good too, but they don't want to insure my vintage VWs so I don't use them.
I wouldn't touch Geico if it was $50 a year. Any company that gives away radar guns in order to increase ticket-writing and insurance premiums does not deserve our business.
I really feel for those in no-fault states like NJ. Why didn't they repeal those stupid no-fault laws when they figured out that all they do is triple your premiums?

Keep in mind that depending on what state you are in your insurance is partly based upon your credit rating too. There is quite a bit of legislation concerning this, and in some states it has been deemed unconstitutional. I damn sure don't agree with it.

And here is info straight from an insurance company too.

Seems they all do it a bit differently.

i did a search under " geico complaints" and the complaints that pple are having with this co are crazy. i just got a very low quote from them but im not sure if i should trust them now. maybe paying a little more with a company i have faith in would be better for me? i dunno :? i have a few weeks before i have to renew my policy.

Wow dude, you really dug this one up. I think this is the oldest revived thread I've ever seen. Almost 10 years. Dang. Anyways, this is all junk. Every and all insurance companies are both very cheap and very expensive. It is different for everyone. Not one single person will have the same premium no matter how similar their lives. There is so much involved with risk assessment, that it is impossible. And yes, for me, Geico is the cheapest. But also, that is relative. I think $200 a month is cheap. You think $100 is expensive. Boom, there's the majority of the problem.

Dude stay away from geico! I had them because they were cheap too and also had full coverage on my car. As soon as I got into an accident they called my car totalled and gave me no money for it. They are horrible at help you out and won't even send an adjuster to take a look at your car. I got screwed over, horrible evoerience just stay away from geico!

Most people don't realize... do you know what "GEICO" stands for??
"Government Employee Insurance Company"
I LOVE Geico... ~$80 for FULL COVERAGE and every little nuance that can come with it (Glass, Roadside, towing, etc)
