Default Will a 36" storm door fit in a tC?

I need to get a new storm door from the local home improvement store about 10-15 miles away and was curious if anyone's tried to cram one in their tC and drive home.

that's an odd question. how would i know? i've never even BEEN to Ohio. (maybe take a "scouting" trip to the home improvement store and buy a tape measure).

i kid, i kid.

i went outside and measured...the opening is 40" wide and you'll hit the front seats at about 5". you may have to drive home with the deck lid tied down but open (unless your house is a hobbit house).

Ya, the only part you'd have to be worried about is the height.

I have this vision in my head of having to drive hunched over with the door resting on the top of my head.

Maybe I'll be adventerous and give it a try. There's no bridges I need to go under so if the hatch flies open I should be okay.

Then I can speed and the cops won't see my license plate

take off the passenger side headrest. lower the seat to be flush with the rear. tilt back the rear seats. load the door and push it to the dashboard on about a 35 degree angle on the passenger side away from you. close the deck (it's a screen door, they bend) . get home quick and bend it back into shape. voila!

or....just tie it to the roof and drive slow.

Random thoughts going through my mind after reading title thread:

"That's going to look odd"

"how much fabrication is that going to take, and how much would pay someone to do it?"

"shouldn't this be in the Aero and Exterior forum?"

Maybe you can close the tailgate if the top of the door is hanging out the sun roof.

i can't believe someone actually went out and measured their car. random act of kindness.... anyways.. you should probably lower all the seats down. bend the passenger and drivers seat backwards so your whole interior is flat. put the door in, sit on the door (use it as a seat) and drive home. only thing is, no backrest and seatbelt would be useless.

that would be my random act of kindness....but no more kind than you trying to figure how he would sit on the door with the whole interior flat and a useless seatbelt.
the thread is one of my favorites btw....
how to get a door home. (easter egg for "search" function in the future).
