Show where there has been hate is this thread. It was mostly people wondering why she went from a WRX to a tC. Then it was discussed if this was a downgrade or not.

While consumer reports is very nice, and can be trusted, I also like to read about cars before I get them. If you go over to NASIOC (Impreza forum) you'll not see a lot of problems with the WRX line. The STI line did have ringland failures between 08-11 but it is being worked. Otherwise the 2.0 and 2.5L motors used from 02-07 in the WRX/STI were stout. And the 2.5 used in the WRX after 07 never really had a lot of problems. (A lot of problems are caused by the owner being abusive, not knowing how to treat the vehicle, or doing stupid stupid mods) The transmission issue was mainly between 02/03 like the OP had (bugeye models) and was an issue with 2nd gear mainly. This was also a problem where people loved to launch the car incorrectly and simply be abusive as heck.

While the main problem I had with my 08 tC was a frozen caliper, it was a reliable car. I've never argued that, it just simply did not work for me with our growing family. It was a major pain putting a car seat in the back and getting the little one out. For a college student like our OP, I can understand where she is coming from. The tC is fairly cheap to maintain, and even cheaper to mod. For example you can do a full exhaust on the tC and not worry about anything, if you do that to a WRX/STI you're asking for a blown motor. While cheap tuning options do exist, the entry level handheld tuner that is trusted still will run you 5-600 bucks. So for a budget minded person who doesn't care about going fast, the tC does work.

(Look at that, a real discussion going on. And no one is hating on anything. How long can we keep this going?)

thank you!!!! okay everyone, plain and simple.if you dont like it, go argue somewhere else please!! with that being said.... MY wrx was too much to maintain on a college student budget!! i spent over $13k on repairs/body work, which is more than i spent on the car in the first place back in 2007!! the car needed new shocks all round, a new turbo and any day now, it would've needed a new transmission. it also needed $1800 worth of body work. the wrx had 153k miles and never had the timing belt done plus other crap that i really don't feel like listing!! so why would i keep pouring money into a car that i can't even enjoy? what you consider a downgrade, i consider an upgrade. i can shift gears in the tC without having to grind into first third and reverse. i don't have to put fight the car into reverse in order to get into first gear. i don't have to worry about too much boost, or wheels falling off (yes, that happened). the car was in four accidents ( and DO NOT start with the "it was a young girl driving a sports car crap). i was at fault for none of them... for two i wasn't even driving, and also the car was also in a hit and run. so needless to say, the car was a nightmare, so if you consider the tC a downgrade get over it. it was my choice and i wanted a car i can enjoy and put money into and see results. not put money into it and put more money into it because something went wrong!!

plans include the obvious... can't stand the 4x4 status so most definitely a drop, hids, tint, fogs, intake exhaust, short shifter because after having one in the wrx i feel like i'm rowing a damn boat right now, couple interior mods, wheels and hell of a lot of suspension work!! i had the fast turbo car, so now i'm shooting for the fun to drive, reliable, daily driver show car

lol I'd love to explain but I've probably explained why atleast twice in previous posts. long story short..wrx had too many problems...expensive problems! tC was cheap and fun and I can spend money modding rather than fixing..
