I noticed my passenger side axle boot is torn now too... *Sigh*
I've blown the 2 front axles in less than 2 months and my car is an 09.
Driver side is fixed, but the passenger side is going to have to wait since I have no funds whatsoever.

wow, i just rotated my wheels today, and lo-n-behold, my driver side inner boot is leaking a bit of grease, and i just so happen to find this thread, lol

so Zombies, any update if your "fix" worked? it looks like it hasnt been leeking for long and ive only been slammed for about 10k miles, but id like to avoid future damage, luckily ill have another DD soon, so my tc is gonna see less then 3-5k miles a year pretty soon!

^ I'd like to know about the fix to. I think I'm in with you guys. I haven't checked it out yet, but I'm fairly sure that this is cause to the wobble when I accelerate.

Chico, what are you getting for a DD?

i got a 94 Honda del-sol, lol, sweet little car!

as for the wobble you have, is it between 10-20mph when your accelerating? My buddy (hardknox on here) had his oem axle replaced with a rebuilt unit that looked fine but led to his wheel vibration/wobble, later had it replaced with an oem axle and the problem went away!

i also noticed in the DIY on CSTC, he mentioned the aftermarket axle not having the rubber "balance/vibration" thingamagig on it, might be why!

the wobble i had was hella bad.. it shook the WHOLE car and felt like everything on my car was gonna fall off. it's because the bearings in the inner cv boot were dry and contaminated, so there was no lube to make the bearings rotate smoothly.

As for my clamp fix, I've taken my front suspension out a few times since then and haven't noticed any leaking or grease anywhere. I will thoroughly check the boots this weekend though, bout that time. I haven't heard any clicking or noise from the axles though.

That really seems like the problem though. Too low means bending the boot on the end and letting grease out and debris in. Seems logical you know?

Im more worried about my frame scraping now, don't want it to rust

I'm looking forward to that DIY.

Yes Chico, the wobble is at 20mph. I'm going to have to replace the axle or whatever needed eventually. It's minor at the moment.

I had something weird happen today. Was leaving a friends house and from my passenger side there was a rhythmic "thump" when accelerating. If I turned the wheels slightly it stopped but on straights it was a thump. It felt like I was driving on a bad road or something. I checked my boots and everything still looked fine so I thought maybe since I had driven a bit with my gas light on I needed gas.

I put some gas and left the station and it still did it for about 2 miles, then it just went away. It was dark so I couldn't really check things out so I'm going to take a look tomorrow, but I hope it was just something stuck in my tire or the fenderwell hitting the tire.

It hasn't started again in the 8 mile drive home. Any thoughts?

welp found out what it was LOL.

Turns out I ran over a pile of fresh tar... had a 6 inch patch of it fused to my tire. Must have wore it down enough not to thump.

just pulled out the axles today.. found out my bearings are effed

sorry, no DIY.. lmao, i'll just warn everyone that the driver side is a !@#!@$!@

here's some tips.

annd the passenger side has two 14mm bolts and they are directly in vertical line with each other, and there is BARELY any room to torque.. 02 sensor on the spipe is in the way, so you should just unhook it from the spipe first and then use a wrench and take it off.. other than that.. everything was pretty simple, just hella time consuming..

ball joints on the tie rod are retarded too... (DON'T LOCK THE STEERING WHEEL) have a homie turn the wheel for you while you
1. jack up the hub
2. use a fork thing inbetween the joints
3. hammer ontop of the stud..

it'll pop out EXTREMELY easy if you do that..

okay, so the driver side:
after you take out the hub, the axle is stuck in the tranny.. it's a real pain in the ___.. we had two people pry it from the bottom of the axle (closest to the ground) and the side (toward the back of the car), and one person just pry on it.. (it works)

hope this helps.. PM me if anything.. they're not on the car yet cuz they're not rebuilt yet. when i put em back on, i'll post up some tips n stuff..

Glad you got them out man. Just for clarification, how many miles were you at being slammed? Trying to figure out how long the oem axles can take the abuse.

^wow, so did you replace them with oem axles or aftermarket/rebuilt axles?

also, is the damage to the axles coming from slammage, or simply lack of grease causing them to eventually go bad?

i'll answer since he's probably out buying tranny fluid.
there was a TON of grease on each of the 3 bearings on each axle, so i doubt lubrication was the problem. i'm 99% sure it's from the angle slammage causes.
he's getting the axles rebuilt if possible, but not sure if it'll just be easier/cheaper to replace than to repair/rebuild.
