Default Benefits of lowering?

Ok, so here's the situation.

My old car was lowered improperly. After owning it for 2 or 3 months I noticed the wheels were cambered alot. I had JUST bought new tires. Hankooks to be exact. So anyway, after putting the car up on a lift, it was discovered that the previous owner had CUT THE STOCK SPRINGS. What an Idiot, right? Anyway, the NEW tires went bald in about 8k miles. Completely unacceptable. And now my parents have a bad experience with lowering.

Now that I've had my tC for about 7 months, I'm ready to lower it. I'm looking at Either Tein H Tech, or Megan Racing Springs. And my parents refuse to let me lower my car. I've tried explaining to them that a professional install, and an alignment would not cause any problems, but they refuse. Are there any other "benefits" or things I Can use to try and persuade them? I'm taking over the car note next month, and they still say no. I'm about to do it anyway....

tl;dr: retard lowered old car improperly, parents went nuts, wont let me lower new car, help me!

lowering car = usually better handling cause its stiffer and lower center of gravity, as well as less bounce than the stock springs.. oh yeah.. and it looks alot better than stock lol

if you can't pay for it yourself dont bother, let your parents keep thier money and put it towards something more productive.

get the TRD springs...not that low. then get an alignment so that there's no camber/toe issues

yeah true, I guess I'll have to wait till next month.

The agreement was that they'd pay the first 6 months, but they did this month (graduation present) too. But I do currently pay for gas and insurance. next month the car is mine.

But they're making it seem like they won't let me do it even though It will be mine and that's why I'm asking for advice...

so right now your riding around on cut stock springs?

tell your parents that the cars handling is dangerously compromised and rides improperly and uncomfortibly, and that they are going to cause you to go broke buying new tires every 8 k miles.

tell your parents that there is a right way and a wrong way to do things, and cutting the springs is the wrong way, buying high quality springs and having them professionally installed and aligned is the right way.

you might have a tough time getting them to let you buy aftermarket springs from somebody they don't know like tein, we know what that brand means, but they don't.

you might have better luck convincing them to let you use TRD springs.

tell them that TRD is an inhouse tuning company owned by toyota, so everything they make is the same quality or higher than what the car already came with. and that these parts are researched and developed by toyota to work specifically with this car and they are warrantied for 1 year/12,000 miles should something go wrong with them.

maybe go and print out some information from TRD and scion itself about their products, along with their warranty statment and whatever. show them that your not buying garbage that is going to ruin your car, or diminish its value.

how about you tell them you will soon be 18, so your going to be a man and move out, get a job and go to school so you will no longer need to ask since it's your money. i've got 2 extra pairs of stock springs how about you tell them to go stock.

My whole TRD setup (cheap way)....
Struts, lowering springs, rear sway bar

Cost me about $1,500 including parts and labor @ dealer. Will go up to $1,750 because of camber links which I keep forgetting to buy. I bounce alot just like a EVO. I also feel the tires just gripping against the road. Also I drove over a small hidden pothole that blew two tires but the TRD struts took the impact quite well. I feel the car is much safer if I happened to slide around on ice that the car will still grip. In fact, it has!

You may just want to wait until you have a vehicle that you have complete financial control over.

I know it sucks, and it's not going to be a fun wait... but at least it won't cause fights between you and a primary source of income throughout your college years.
