Coilover Reccommendation
so im upgrading my suspension this summer, and i went through pricing for the tein h-techs combined with the koni sports, and the total cost was around 800 dollars... i looked around some more, and i found the tein basics for 783 dollars and the ksport coilovers for 840 dollars off of intensescion.com.... now why not get coilovers? however, i do have a couple questions... im looking for a suspension/coilover that isnt too harsh on the ride... i hear the ksports are pretty rough... the teins i hear are better, and i think they are compatible with the EDFC correct? I want to know if there are any coilovers out there that are not too harsh on the ride.. i like a smooth ride but really good performance (i.e. koni FSD struts) .... any reccomendations? maybe the H&R coiovers? Tanabe? other teins? let me know what you think....

I don't think the Tein Basics are compatible with EDFC, just the SS and SSP.
The Ksports are kind of generic and would probably be a little harsh like you said and the quality might be questionable.
Same goes for Tanabe... I don't know about the ride comfort, but the quality of their parts doesn't really ever strike me as the best.
I'd say if you got the $$, go for the H&R. You can get them for about $1000... http://www.optionimports.com/54610-1024.html
And they're H&R, so build quality should be top notch. Someone else on the forums just got them and loves them so far. No adjustable dampening, but the ride sounds to be pretty good anyways. Ah, here's the thread: https://www.scionlife.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=129709
You could also consider Progress ones (rumor is that's who will be making the TRD ones as well). But I'd still probably say H&R over those.
That's just my opinion though.

teins are good, they have adjustable dampening, but the with type of "lowering" they offer, you loose suspension travel... not with KSports, you can fully adjust compression/rebound, height and keep suspension travel.
The only downside, is that there is no electronic dampening adjustment, it has to be manual, but hey, the only reason I need it is for autox... hell I can just get down the car and adjust... , lets change everything and say the electronic dampening adjustment is for lazy people, jejeje.
I'm happy with my ksports

I mean, I was used to stock shocks with TRD springs, it was comfy, when i got the ksports coilovers, i put it all the way to soft to test comfort and they weren't that far from my old setup (comfort)... handling improved of course

Ksport is awesome, I have it for about little over a year now. I had it at the softest setting for awhile until a few days ago. I adjusted a complete turn from the softest setting, and it is perfect.
Downside is manual adjustment for the dampening, but overall is pretty nice. I got the ksport lower then the price posted. Try elementmotorsport.com I got mine from them. Great customer service.

yup, at first i tried them at soft to test comfort, then i moved it, i don't really care too much about comfort... i just felt like testing...
Since yesterday when i installed them I have been testing, right now I'm at level 16 in the back and level 8 in the front, and that'll keep changing throught the days...

my car is also a daily driver.
you can get the h&r's, but they don't come with the upper mounts for the front nor the rear, the ksports bring everything, including front camber plates, their spring rates make them seem tough, but they are not very tough if you put them on the soft mode of course.

What does it involve to manually adjust it? and it sounds like the ksports are good enough for me.. i dont ever go to the track, but i might once i get this... however, i usually treat the street as my track lol.... i push my car to the limit which is why im resulting to coilovers... and the ksports are cost effective as opposed to the tein ss coilovers... now if i lower my car like really low past 2 inches, or even around 2 inches will i need to get a wheel alignment and all that fun stuff? I read somewhere that these ksports come with camber adjustment rods....

You will need an alignment after you lowered your ride. You have to manually adjust the dampening setting, which means you have to gut your trunk interior and take out the front windshield wipers and that black plastic thing located near the front windshield. Then, you can adjust the dampening setting. Tein SS and SSP allows the dampening to be adjusted electronically. Unless you do autocross as a living and use your ride as a daily drive at the same time, EDFC is really not that useful for daily drive.
But everyone has it own opinion and taste. If you have money to blow on Tein SSP with EDFC, go ahead. Otherwise I think Ksport is fine, plus getting your hands dirty to adjust the dampening is not that bad.

tein and ksport are very rough and not DD friendly, unless you like your car making sounds like its gonna break after every bump. with stiffer suspension you should also get sticky tires.
the only coilover i've been in personally that was smooth for DD are the B+G RS2.0
Other than that i've been in and driven ss-p, basic and ksports. all very stiff and harsh.

you either go for performance... or for comfort... if you want comfort leave your car stock, or trade it in for a lexus...
if you want performance, you WILL loose comfort.
However, the ksports on the softer setting are not that bad.
They are 36-levels adjustable.
The plastic thing on the front, I opened holes on it so I could stick the adjusters to adjust the coilovers without taking that out, and the rear, I usually strip down my car when I go to the tracks, then I can adjust it.
You do not need to adjust if you are only going to use your car as a daily driver.
And yes, any suspension change in geometry, go align your car.
The ksports do come with the front camber plates, right now I'm running -2.5 deegres of camber in the front, and -2.0 in the rear.
For the track I put the rear coilovers on level 20 (0 soft to 36 hard) and the front ones on level 12.... I'm still testing, so that might change.
