Cupping tires
Hey guys,
I got an annoying problem that I can't seem to figure the cause of. Had my alignment checked and everything is within spec. I'm lowered on h techs and have an 18x9.5 wheel with 225/40 tires. Car only has 20k on it. Tires about 10k. First noticed the problem when my steering wheel started shaking over 70mph. Flipped all four tires and it went away so i know it was a tire issue. Just don't know what's causing the cupping. My shocks seem to be okay, no crazy rebound, push down and it comes right back up with no bouncing. Plus it's cupping on the inside of the tire so that rules out bad shocks/struts. Wheel bearings are okay, no play. Could it just be because it's lowered and tire is a little stretched?
Any input would be amazing because it's driving me nuts.
Thank you,
Dainius

More details would help
Based that you said your tires are stretched with your alignment within spec, I'd say it's your stretched tires that are the problem.
Steering wheel vibration is often a bent wheel (or bad tire).
Do you have quality tires on your car? Cheap tires will often wear, and develop problems quicker.

I know it's not a bent wheel because after i flipped my tires the vibration was gone. Also, when i balanced them I didn't see any wobbling when they were spinning on the balancer. As far as tires go i have yoko s drives. Hopefully people with stretched tires can chime in.

Ditto.
Camber and toe, probably not. I have a pretty aggressive alignment, I go through at least two tires a season racing, and I never get weird vibrations with very stiff suspension.
Although, cupping is usually alignment-based. If you hadn't already said it's aligned, that would have been my first guess...
Lowering doesn't affect front camber much at all because of the strut design.
It must have been fun stretching a 40-series tire!

Tires, directional yes.
Checked alignment again yesterday seemed okay.
Camber is off by .03 up front from side to side so that's nothing. Everything else nice and within the spec.
My last guess is stock struts with lowering springs and combination of streched tire that could be causing it. Maybe it's time to get some coils :D
I really dont know where to look anymore. Everything looks tight underneath.
