CUSCO Strut Bar Type AS Review
UPDATE 10/26/11
Full review and test done by JDM Option: http://www.jdm-option.com/eng/pr_CUSCO/towerbar.html
How's it going guys.
I'm starting this thread to introduce you guys to Cusco products I'm planning to get. So far, the only products available specific for the Scion tC is the Strut Bar Type AS and Zero 1 coilover <- Click for photos
Before I start the product review, take some time and read through our sites Special Coverage with Cusco USA (http://www.night-import.com/2011/05/...cusco-usa.html)
I purchased the Cusco Type AS Strut Bar a few weeks ago and finally had time to install it.
The product was taken out of the original packaging for this photo.
The calender and license plate frame DOES NOT come with the strut bar. I only took a photo of those just to let you guys know Cusco sells them separately.
Tag on the packaging.
A Cusco sticker will come with the strut bar.
Cusco Type AS strut bar is adjustable for the perfect fitment. Now there are a lot of controversies going on between adjustable and solid strut bars regarding its actual performance in handling, so I don't want to talk about that subject. What I do want to mention though, is the material used for Cusco strut bars and its design. If you didn't read through our coverage, here's a photo:
"Cusco makes their products into perfection. Most of the companies out there do not have any proof or show the materials used to finalize what they make. These three materials shown are different types and design of Strut Bars. You can see the crafting is absolutely in detail, such as the far left product which is 'twin layered oval sectioned lightweight aluminum shaft with carbon fiber'. The design is for proper fitment and most importantly, the rigidity. "
Performance review: Most of you guys already know the purpose of a strut bar is to reduce flex during hard cornering and keeping the wheels in position. Although my car is slammed, I did feel a slight difference in handling after the strut bar installation because my car is daily driven. Cusco products are meant for automotive sport cars, so it would be great for someone who uses their tC to track write a review because it will be more helpful for the tC community.
The price for tC strut bars range from low to high, and I would say Cusco's strut bar price is VERY reasonable, ranging from $100~$130.
Why not choose a product that has the 'right' price and most importantly, tested AND proven?
Hope this review was helpful for those planning to get a strut bar. You can purchase the product through any authorized dealer online or offline.
You won't be disappointed! Guarantee!

i must agree, ive had the same Cusco strut bar for about 2 years now and its well worth the money. Its actually one of the cheapest front strut bars on the market, and i got mine for $98 back then...although mine didnt come with a free license plate frame hehe

a strut bar in the price range of ~$100 is VERY cheap, especially when one is fully tested. Many think that a strut bar doesn't have any purpose but it actually does.

That bar looks like $30 ebay bars. Too bad Cusco didn't design the tC strut bar with the flat/wide bar design and full circular strut mounts like their other bars.
i really like their carbon fiber AE86 bar

A strut bar is simply a flat mounting point on the struts and a bar to connect it, doesn't matter if its a flat bar or a round tube to do so. Either way on the tC a strut bar does nothing since the strut towers site right on the firewall. A strut bar for the tC, or any other car with struts sitting right on the firewall will be merely for looks.
