Default Damn... help

Okay... so, I had my car jacked up last night to attempt the front sway bar installation again. But... I stopped. The reason is one of my bolts on the subframe is starting to strip... Not good, what should I do? I don't want to strip the bolt, but at the same time I want to get the subframe off so I can complete the damn project.

What do I do in the instance when there is a stripped bolt?

thanks.

Just use the correct size tools to take the bolt off.... even if the bolt is slightly stripped, you should be able to take it off without at problem.. Otherwise, do whatever you have to do to get that bolt off and replace it with a new one when you put it back together...... If the project has to get done, then it just has to get done....

Worse case scenereo, vice grips always seem to work...... But I would make sure you are using the correct size socket when you are trying to remove this bolt..... If the bolt does not want to give, then you can just slide a pipe at the handle of your ratchet.......

Okay... that's what I had figured... get the bolt off and then replace it... I guess I'll have to get it off and go to toyota or Lowe's or something... That subframe is such a b...

that's a damn fantastic idea!!! Use a pipe as an extension. Damn great... hopefully that will make my life 10x easier taking this damn subframe off.

So I found a shop on base I can use the lift at... I'm going to get it all done thursday. I don't have the bolt there but does anyone know of a diagram or blueprint of the vehicle I can get online to try and find the bolt I need? I'm going to go to toyota and get another bolt today if I can figure out which one it is...

I think you mean rounded. Stripped means the threads are damaged.

If it is slightly rounded, try a 12 point socket, they will many times still grab enough to take it off. Then, buy a set of proper sized tools so you dont round another bolt :D

Ok... I should be set. This girl I work with is married to the regional manager of goodyear down here. She overheard my conversation and called him up and put him on the phone with me. I'm going first thing tomorrow morning to get it checked out. He's going to help me. Keep your fingers crossed for me that I get the hook up. There's no job like a free job... unless it's a b-job. Hahaha

So we'll see, I might have a DIY for the front sway tomorrow morning though. Thanks for the help guys...

Good stuff!!!!! I learned the hard way that when you do not use the "proper" tools you are only setting yourself up for failure....

I actually have used the 32nd street base garage a couple of times and they have ALL the damm tools that you would ever need to do a job like the front sways....

You will get it done and you will look back and congratulate yourself......

Trust me, when you get that front sway in, you will feel like you are straight driving a sports car around the bends...... Just set it to the hardes settings.....
