Please dont take offense to my comments but days of rwd being superior to fwd on track have been long gone (on stock cars) Dont believe me? Check out the honda integra type r (rsx type r) it outhandled a base wrx, rx8, mr 2, and a few other simialr cars. Also the civic type r as well can beat those cars (the drivers of all cars were proffesional drivers). Rwd will always have an advantage on drag over fwd with simple physics but even then some people have done wonders with modified civics beating even ferraris, Yes it was a highly moded one but stil fwd.

There is a a BIG difference between a show drift and a drift used for racing. The show drift and donuts can indeed be performed only by a rwd and rear biased awd cars seeing as to how you can easily control oversteer. A race drift which is what people during the 30's - 60s did when racing can be acomplished by any drivetrain, there is no use for it anylonger because of much better tire traction, lsds, and other things that improve traction.

Also please dont say that but f1 nascar and so on only use rwd there for its the best. Ofcourse its the best when you are putting down 1000 hp. There arent too many streetable cars that can put down that kind of power on pump gas. For stock cars that are raced on weekends in autox and circuit fwd is just as good as rwd and the way the car is setup with drivers skill becomes more important then drivetrain layout.

what exactly is the obessesion with drifting now-a-days? its like the hot cool kid thing to do... IMO its highly unsafe, unless your in a controled environment (i.e. track.) I'd love to see one of these kids try and drift thier FWD car on some surface streets, and watch the asphalt flat spot the tires from the e-brake pull... hope money grows on trees for those expensive tire bills...

i dont know how this thread is still going.

you cannot drift a fwd. period. your front wheels need to steer, and the rear wheels need to push. end of story. you cant do that in a fwd, obviously. you can POWERSLIDE. and that just means you're sliding, and you gas out of it at the end.

losing traction and spinning tires does not constitute an instant drift.

my coworker was telling me a story about how he drifted in his stock neon, and i laughed and said "you cant drift" and he got ____ed, saying he drifted becuase his tires were spinning. yeah thats called no lsd.

you cant drift a fwd.

I dont know where this drifting craze came from in the USA. IMO it is by far the most stupid thing I have ever seen done with a car. I really dont know why it became popular..

btw, whats really funny, you see some kid with a banged up bumper cause the idiot cant park and he throws the excuse at you, "no man its drift scars/damage" I love it!

Next thing we'll see ppl with Akina stickers on their cars
