ebc rotor dimpled/slotted rotor problems
Last week I purchased and installed EBC redstuff front brake pads and EBC 3gd front dimpled/slotted rotors for my 2007 TC. Within the first 20 miles or so I noticed a scraping noise once every revolution of the wheel while driving on both front wheels. Its a lound tick at 50mph. I just figured that the brakes needed to get bed in, but after 500 miles the noise continued. I tried reinstalling them and got the same noise. I jacked up a front wheel and rotated it, and got the same noise. The noise is coming from one section on both of the front rotors. I installed the oem rotors with the redstuff pads and the noise is gone! I followed all break in procedure's according to ebc's guidelines. Seems like I have narrowed the noise down to the rotors.
The first few miles the rotors got extremly hot, probably due to the abrasive material that is on the redstuff brake pads for break in. Maybe have warped them during this time.
Sounds like both of these rotors have a high spot or are warped.
EBC's website says that these rotors can be turned, but no one in my area will turn them for me because they are dimpled/slotted.
I have shipped these back to the place where I purchased them for a exchange.
Anyone experience a similar problem with EBC, any ideas/ comments out there?

sounds like it was too out of round. You should get yourself a run-out gauge. Harbor Freight has the gauge + the mounting base for like $20.. It's what I got to measure the run out, that would've answered your question before ever having to use the brakes. get one it would help.

I used the EBC dimpled & slotted rotors, but that was on my previous car, a '98 Ford V6 Contour. The car was sold to my nephew when I bought the tC back in Jan. of '06. They've been on the car for about 6yrs, no issues, much improved capability over stock, I think they're very good quality rotors, well worth what I spent. The only criticism I have is that they're much harder to modulate than stock (using EBC GreenStuff pads), it sure doesn't take much pedal pressure to stop, a light touch really hauls you down from speed.
No idea why you had an issue, figure it must be a fluke, but I guess we'll see once you install your exchanged set. I'm sure they weren't warped, but the pad material may have been unevenly distributed on the rotor, such that there was a high spot...although it's kinda strange you'd only hear it at 50mph.

hmm possible issue that you may be having was when I installed rotors slotted and dimpled by rotorpros the front I had some rubbing issue. the fix for me apparently was that shield that is in the interior was scraping the rotor it self. So i just took a screw driver or anything to put between it and the rotor and pushed it back a bit. after that no more scraping noises

I have ebc front and rear slotted and dimpled rotors with green stuff pads in the front. No issues and installed myself. Stupid question but did you have the rotors turning the right way cause they are directional?

Ive always been told to use old pads (and preferably not high friction ones) to break in your rotors. Usually new pads and rotors at the same time is not a problem but that break in coating they use on the pads has a different (lower) coefficient of friction than the pad material and every now and then the coating will wear off unevenly and you will get hot spots (pad material showing through) on the pad that incorrectly heat the rotor. Also during the break in period, its recommended that you not hold the brakes on after a stop (like come to a stop then stay stopped with foot on brake pedal) because the hot pads/calipers will be heating that part of the rotor much more than the rest. I fear that mightve killed your rotors. Always good to use a runout gauge when you first mount too.

I have the USR rotors and red stuff pads and its been 1,200 miles and im getting a squeaking noise everytime i tap the brakes to slow down. The rotors look to be warped ive been in contact with EBC about replacing both
