GREDDY STRUT BARS
#21
all i know is that when i used the spacers the end mounts sat a lot better then they did w/o them. especially on the driver's side.
i'm still trying to think of a way to remedy this. if i can't, i'll probably just take it off.

yup I also jacked up the car, and had to stand on the wheel to keep it down, thereby pulling the bolts down to slide the bar into place. It didnt just make installing the bar easy, it made it possible. I cant see how else I could have done it.

Got it installed today. I used every spacer...dont see why you wouldnt use them. I had to do no dremeling of any of the body of my brand new car and it took 15 minutes. The hardest part was reinstalling the plastic windshield piece.

I dont have step by step pics during the install, but you can see a few pics of it after its in here:

I have more, and can take new, closer ones if you need me too.
The whole install was quick and easy, I just went along with the instructions.

Jacking up car? I didnt have a need to do that. This mod is really to easy to provide pics but I will get a final pic tomorrow. All you do is pop out the plastic windshield piece unscrew the 6 strurt bolts then mount the two blue bases. The area that the other guy dremeled can be accessed with a crescent style wrench as opposed to a socket. Once the blue bases are in install the bar and put everything back together.

ok i had the car up on jacks and i still couldn't get the nut between that metal lip and the top of the strut bolt once the spacers were on.
anyway, do you both have the same result with the nuts not going down very far? i'm anxious to see pics.

That's weird. I have the Hotchkis bar and have taken it off numerous times to get to the back of the motor and the nut clears fine if you just bend that metal back about a 1/4 of an inch. It's such a slight bend it goes back to how it was when you leave it alone.
The Greddy bar is a lil awkward looking to me. So far I like the design of the Hotchkis and DC sports. But we will find in time how they all perform compared to eachother.

so the thread loss problem is just part of the install..
i've been thinking about trying to find shorter nuts. will that make any difference or will it be the same as using half of the stock nuts?

GReddy almost always produces top notch products. But if thats the way all of the bars go on, then DC beats em this time hands down. The DC bar is less expensive, utilizes a dual bar design, and in my opinion just looks better anyway. Plus from what we see in these pics, the DC bar leaves you with all the threading you need to feel safe and secure once the bar is on, not like the GReddy which looks like its barely secured.

I build custom firetrucks for a living and will tell you this... Our standard is a minumum of 3 threads above the nut. This setup with the spacers looks completely unacceptable to me and very unsafe. Please think about it and take care.
