The bar within the yellow box is the tie rod.
The part within the red circle is your steering knuckle connected to the suspension strut.

You may want to check the inner tie rod and lower control are as well just in case.

Yes! I hit a curb on a left turn at a light and the little median curb came out of nowhere and both left side tires went over the curb. Messed up my front driver side rim bad and bent the back left too. It made me get new rims, konigs though but still. Also had to get an alignment and the scion tech guy came up to me and was like "your alignment was BAD!"

was the curb properly marked or identified? its a long shot, but there have been times where you could tell the city about the problem and have them cover the costs and this happened when i lived in so cal.

No, it's just the same color as the pavement. When I passed it later on, i saw lots of tire marks on it.

usually i am the person that would say its your fault since you didn't pay attention, but i am all for going against the system at this point and the way the economy is. take a picture of the area and send it to the city and request they pay for service to get it fixed. it can be labeled and as an improperly marked curbed. worth a shot to try it out.

I don't really feel like going through the trouble. it was way long ago when this happened and I never go that route anymore. If I was extremely strapped for cash, i would try to do something about it.
