Default how much to replace all 4 struts?

i have a bud that works at an auto warehouse so i got the parts for cheap. i got all 4 struts and the upper mounts. my stock springs are still good but the struts are beat from the $hitty roads pittsburgh has to offer. i took it to my local garage and they wanted to charge me 9 hours of labor at 90$ an hour to put them on for a cost of close to 1k

i did struts once years ago and really dont want to do it again, besides i dont hava a spring compressor anyway.

what should this cost?

i know the guy at the shop was peed offed cause i got my own parts so they couldnt rip me on that so i think he is trying to rip me on the labor.

its funny how much parts really cost when you get them at warehouse cost compared to after the shop charges retail. its about half

Wow, 1k is a HUGE rip off....this should take a professional shop with air tools and a lift maybe 2½ hours.....the shops around here all quote around $250 to $300. If you want a DIY link, here is one:

DIY; and as an added not, use AIR TOOLS + your OEM jack to assist with dropping the rear arms / subframe. otherwise you will need to have someone press down on the rotor / arm to push it down to pull out the rear shocks!

=) i just re-did mine this past weekend, 20 minutes each side for fronts, 30 minutes each side rear.

i figured maybe a half day or so to do all 4. i estimated maybe $300-400. i really dont want to do it myself. i changed struts one time years ago and would rather soneone that does it regularly do it or at least babysit me while i do it. when they told me almost a grand i laughed as i walked out the door. dude was peed off that i had my own parts so they couldnt rip me off on parts. ha i get parts cheaper than the garage cause i got a bud that works at and auto parts warehouse so i get parts dirt cheap

taking them off and on u get used to it, it's all experience and learning. With my new power tools I can take off fronts and replace them in < 45 minutes total. That's both fronts. Rears are about 20 mins each as well; the trick is to use ur OEM jack to assist with lowering / raising the control arms / rotors.

If you brought me your parts, I would have charged you more also. It looks like he doesn't want your business.
You understand he makes his living from parts and labor? Of course an Internet mail-order will have a lower price.
I taught my wife how to do struts & springs. We did her xB2 twice and my tC1's twice.

I purchased a set of struts and springs with less than 20 miles on them from a member on this board. They don't have the top part of the strut that compresses them. Do I need to buy some new mounts or bushings or just reuse my previous ones?

Not sure if I need these.

http://www.partsgeek.com/gbproducts/...07&fp=pp&gbm=a

Or these bushings.

http://www.car-stuff.com/2010sciontc...10kybkysm53821

I plan on having this done soon since I am on the ghetto side of town with mechanics everywhere.

I would do it myself if I didn't need to compress the springs. Biggest thing I have had to fix on my car was replace a bent lower control arm and I had to get my mechanic neighbor to help me remove it.

Thanks.

Edit: my struts make popping noises badly when turning over bumps and have 108000 miles on them. Not sure if I am going to do the rear ones also. Depends how much it costs or if I can do it myself.

You only need those bushings (washer, top bushing, and what not) PLUS the top mount assembly (aka top hat) PLUS..... the Upper spring perch .... IF......

IF.......

You had previously done a suspension change and no longer have the top hats.

+1 on the DIY. Honestly doesn't take long if you know what you're doing. With that said, look in the DIY section for lowering spring install and study it. Rent a spring compressor from auto zone and it's a breeze. Took me 30 mins to do the front 2 with a buddy.

Yeah sounds like he wanted to rip you off for buying your own parts, mechaniacs hate that shiat.
DIY, me and my brother did mine and it took us 3 hrs with no air tools.

Re-used the same springs or new ones?

Cuz if you got new ones.... depending on the drop... the alignment would serve you "almost" no purpose in 4-5 weeks. lol
