Default just installed koni yellows..but why is the REAR sooo HIGH??

I just installed Koni Yellows the other day and I noticed that the rear height is a LOT higher than it was before with my stock shocks. i have tein s-techs btw. The shop that did the install keeps insisting that they did the install correctly. the fronts are pretty much the same height as before. here are pics of the front vs the rear

does anyone know if this is normal..cuz they keep telling me it will "settle" more..but i didn't know that shocks needed to settle..i thought it was just springs that did that.

anyways...please let me know if anyone else has encountered this type of problem. thanks

well im only thinking since you messed with the springs they need to settle again? But then the fronts would be the same also? When i jacked up my car to paint my calipers my suspension was a little high than normal (hotchkis springs). the next day or 2 it went back to normal! BUT i dont remember mine being THAT high, i had maybe an extra finger gap when it happened? stick with it a couple of days and see what happens?

Default installed koni struts

NO NO guys!! his rears shouldn't b like that! i have a similar set-up except that i'm running hotchkis springs...he's had his stechs on for quite some time so they should be fully settled....i had all my suspension components installed the same day...fresh springs, struts, and f&r strut bars...mine was nothin like that, mine was slammed all the way around. i believe his installers messed up on the installation, since they r inserts, i think his installers didn't cut the stock struts correctly or forgot to do something with the rear ones..the front looks exactly like mine...but iono...any other opinions??

so the rears are inserts as well?? they told me that the rears were a direct swap out..and only the front had to be modified.

thats hella high. there was another guy who looked like he had the same problem. i forgot the thread but he was riding on a H&R and koni yellow set-up and his rear was sitting pretty high up in the air like yours.

as for the rears being inserts, i always thought they were direct replacements. making me think twice about buying them if thats the case. :?

The rears are direct replacements. Only the fronts are inserts. Trust me, I have my complete stock rear struts sitting in my garage right now.

This is a strange problem--I'm on TRD springs and my rear is really low! See here:

I think it's my springs though...they were kinda low when I was running my stock struts too.

Funny thing is, they're uneven-- look at the other side:

By the way, at what level did you guys have the installers set your rear struts? I'm not sure if that has anything to do w/ ride height (I really don't think it does), but maybe there's a correlation.

Mine are set about a half turn from full soft.

i told them to set it at full soft on all fours...and yea i don't think that should affect the ride height at all.

well..i brought my car back to the shop and they loosened the bottom mounting bolt and then tightened it back up while the car was on the ground..but rear is still super raised. now they are going to measure the oem shock to see if it's the same height as the koni?? hard to imagine it being different..but man this is getting frustrating

I have the yellows. The rears are not inserts, only the front. My setup seems to high in the rear for sportline Eibachs. It should be a 2 inch drop but it looked only like a 1 inch drop. On the topic I think it would be impossable for a shock/strut to raise a car. If your car is raised your strut would have to be bottomed out. Every bump would tear your car apart. A spring holds your car up because of the spring rate aka hundreds of pounds. How hard was it for you to push in you struts, 10 pounds of pressure maybe.

uhh..i'm not sure exactly what u mean. so are you saying it's supposed to be higher? anyways..i measured the OEM shocks( distance between the spring seat and the lower bolt) and it was 2.5 inches. and on my koni's the distance is 3.75 inches..it sould be the same but it's not..so koni is trying to figure out how that happened.

ok...we FINALLY figured out what the problem was with my rear height. the perch was installed upside down...i attached pictures so you know what i'm talking about. that's why the height is like over an inch higher in the back.

Quick Reply: just installed koni yellows..but why is the REAR sooo HIGH??
