Default now i know why not to many people get the Hotchkis springs

because it is a pain in the ___ to install yourself!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I did the front 2 and that was fine took me about an hour and a half, that was mostly messing with the spring compressor. The rears you just have to compress the springs so much to get it on and with the way Hotchkis springs is made its not an easy task since the way it is wounded up. So there isnt much to grab onto to compress it. I guess imma have to just take both rear struts out and take it to a shop to let them swap the springs for me. Hopefully they wont charge me an arm and a leg since its already out of the car. So i had to piece the rear suspension back together and that was a huge pain in the ___. You have to compress the spring about 4+ inches to get that top cap back on....

So frustrated right now. Now im taking out my aggression out by drinkin beer and watching tv....

On a different note I ended up scraping my front bumper coming out of my driveway.
Ok that wasnt a good note...

Enough of my rant. Well if anyone out there know a different way to compress those springs without killing myself let me know so I can save a few bucks.

BUT since i have the fronts in i love it so far, its not to low at all i can fit 2 finger inbetween the wheel and the fender. It still rides like stock, NOT BUMPY at all!!! I havent took a hard hit eg. pot hole yet but so far after going over rail rough road tracks its fine.

Do you know if the shocks go out easily or if you can get it aligned correctly?

Well people have complained that when they lowered their car on stock shocks that they would eventually wear out real quick. The only one I heard that doesn't do this is the TRD since it is such a mild drop, but I was wondering if the Hotchkis did the same? Or if they threw off the camber so much that it couldn't be aligned correctly and increase treadwear? Just wondering if you know because I was debating these springs.

Well for the reasons you mentioned (wear on stock shocks) you should probably replace them if you do springs anyways... but you really should be fine for a while on them.

Thing is the only aftermarket shocks are the TRD ones and they are 400 bucks!!! Might as well get the coilovers.

As soon as I can finish the rear springs I'll take pics and let you know if there is any camber problems...

Pretty much any spring install is going to require a spring compressor of some sort. As is stated in the instructions we recommend you get one or borrow one. I am glad you like the way the ride is.

Definitly love the way it rides, i cannot wait to get the rears on so I can really drive and find out!!! I'll try and borrow a strut compressor and do it tomorrow. I did suspension before but in a civic and that took me 3hours to do all 4. And like I said the fronts took me about 1 1/2 hours thats mostly messing with the spring compressor! Hopefully I will get the rears on and then have a few bucks to get hte hotchkis sways, H&R wheel spacers, then the car will look HOT!!!!!!!!

um, yea. but that's not really a valid reason not buy these springs. that doesn't make the springs themselves not worth buying-- if you don't possess the skills/tools/knowledge to do the install yourself or can't afford to have the springs installed somewhere else, perhaps you shouldn't be buying springs at all.

this post is pointless because it's bashing perfectly good quality springs (not to mention ones that look absolutely gorgeous on the tC) for no reason other than you couldn't install them yourself.

not trying to hate or anything, you should maybe just consider thinking before you name your post something like "now i know why no one buys hotchkis springs."

Did i ____en bash hotchkis springs???? prolly not. i like the springs i like how the front looks with those springs. i was basically getting at how hard it is to instal the rears. i did plenty of suspension installs to know whats hard and whats not. and if you would have read the other post i have made here all i have been saying is how i love the springs. and i was putting a valid point out there about the hotchkis springs. seeing how everyone gets tein springs, if i would have bought those springs i would have it installed the same day in not time....and i made the post name "now i know why not to many people buy hotchkis springs" cuz everyone always talk about tein.

...or name your post something actually related to the post itself (ie "Hotchkis Springs are Hard to Install"). oh well.

Oh yeah and use the recommended spring compressor that will not work for the rear springs...mmmk, it should have specified you neeed a strut compressor to do the rears.
