Default Ordered All New Brakes!

I ordered Front & Rear Cross Drilled / Slotted Rotors, and I also ordered some Satisfied Pro Ceramic pads to go with them. I will try to post some pics as soon as I get them on my car. Design Rotor Technologies is selling the rotors on Ebay for $170 for all 4 shipped. They have a website @ www.designrt.net

I would probably just wait to get a big break kit and do it all. Rotors and pads are nice, but if you actually want stopping power, you're going to want different calipers with more pistons and a larger surface area.

That's what I'd prefer anyways... but would love to hear if there's a good difference and see what they look like.

I did Brembo Drilled/Slotted Rotors on my 2002 Celica GT-S with TRD pads and it made a world of difference. Big brakes are a little out of the budget right now but I will probably put them on the front later on.

FYI, tires will lower stopping distances the most.

Also bigger is not always better. More pistons, more surface, and larger rotors only on the front axles will lengthen stopping distances. Brake upgrades are like suspension and need to be upgraded in a balanced manner.

Does anybody make a big brake kit for the rear? All I have seen is the Big Rotor kit but just adding bigger rotors doesn't make the brakes all that much better they just look cool. I just bought these brakes to hold me over a while. I see everybody adding turbo kits and what not but nobody upgrades the brakes. I see no point in going fast if you can't stop the dang car.

Someone probably will, however I can tell you that most companies will not and it's for one simple reason. 4 wheel big brake kits don't stop any better than 2 wheel big brake kits. 4 wheel big brake kits look better. The advantages of having a 4 wheel kit is that it looks good, has more friction options and is easier to change the pads. Most rear brake systems are more than adequate for the cars that they are on. And since most of the braking is done on the front of the car, the rear brakes don't get as hot, which is the main point of having a big brake kit, better heat capacity. Here is more on the topic of rear big brake kits. http://www.stoptech.com/whitepapers/...tter120601.htm

Thats possible with some modifications to the caliper mount I would imagine. I don't think it would be worth the time though.

The rear rotors have a drum inside the hat of the rotors for the parking brake. The front rotors do not accomodate for that. The mounting ears are different as well as the pad height, rotor diameter and rotor thickness.

In the end if someone does happen to get it to work they would lose the parking brake, and probably have a unbalanced brake setup, which causes longer stopping distances.

whats wrong with you people havent you heard the sayin if it aint broke dont fix it - lets be real the stock brakes have more then enough stoping power to stop the lil xb and another thing lets keep in mind that a car with 1.5 produceing 108 hp wasnt design to go fast - simple lil fact the xb with a INTAKE < EXHAUST , and HEADERS only gets you 6.5-7.5hp at the wheels and thats at 5,000 rpm

You're in the tC forum.

Yes, but you'll lose your parking brake and won't gain much if anything. The rear brake rotors are almost as big as the fronts to begin with, and they don't do much of the braking so the difference between a stock rear caliper and stock front caliper is probably negligible. Five Axis did adapt a TRD front big brake to fit on the rear, but it was for their show car so real-world performance (and lack of a parking brake) was probably not a concern.

You are probably right but this is for a TC. The TC is in need of brakes really bad because the brakes on it are terrible it has like a 125ft. 60-0 time. The car I had before this only had like a 110ft. 60-0 time so for me it is a drastic change in performance. I also have 18" wheels which add a little more stress on the braking system, so I need all of the stopping power I can get.

...so far you xB guys have much more to choose from in aftermarket parts. feel better?

chris

EDIT: I was originally gonna make some joke about brake dust and grape nuts, but I couldn't put it together in a way that worked.
