Here's a good site to visit if someone wants to know how a differential works.

http://auto.howstuffworks.com/differential.htm
Also, a spider gear dosen't change gear ratio either. All a spider gear does is help to change the speed of one of the wheels. In order to change the 5th gear ratio, you would need to change the 5th speed gear. You would have to find one made for the same transmission as the tC.
Does anyone know what other toyota vehicles use the tC manual trans?

The "just change out 5th gear" idea is pretty appealing to me, although I think 1st is too low anyway. I just want to go the cheapest route. My #1 concern is to get the tach down about 800 rpm when highway crusing. Acceleration/LSD/etc are all secondary to me. I'd also love to keep the factory warranty when doing it -- say, for example if a dealer could get the different 5th gear and change it out for $750 or so.

Say i get the supercharger... will it be easy to break the tires loose with 200hp? I plan on getting headers, pulley and other stuff. Actually i should probably order my car first...

Why did this get moved to N/A forum?

youll break lose in every gear except 4th from what ive heard. 1st is a joke, 2nd youll still peel, and 3rd youll chirp.

The discussion here about replacing gears for speed is NA talk. would you like me to move it to suspension and handeling?

I'd say put it in suspension/handling. As soon as i get my check tuesday i'm heading up to the dealer and order my car, by the time i get it i may have enough for the supercharger. I can only hope Quaife will make a good diff. for this car. This will be my first decent horsepowered FWD car. I've always had posi rear ended v8s.

The LSD does not affect your ratios, these are completely separate aspects of the tranny.
