Default Question and suggestions on Coil Overs / TRD Struts & sp

Whats better and why?

Coil Overs
vs.
TRD Struts & springs

Take it into consideration that I do not want such a low drop and I don't know if coil overs can be set to a minimum drop. What do I need to know and what should I need since I'm soon to be in the process of a full suspension change then working into engine.

Please lend me a hand

For coilovers... just think if you would need to adjust the ride height at any point or the dampening (on some brands). If you don't, there might not be much reason to bother with them

Oh and some of the min/max adjustments are here:

When would I need to adjust it and is it like electronic adjustments or what?

Does the TRD Struts add a great change in suspension performance.

depends on which springs and your driving style. With the trd springs, you find a huge difference except when you corner really hard. With a more severe drop like hotchkis or stechs, it will corner a lot better when pushed and will eliminate the floaty feeling you get with stockers. Personally, unless you have the cash to throw around or drive really hard, trd struts are not imperative if you are doing a trd drop...

Well I don't plan on drifting or anything. Just an occasional track race here and there.

So If Im paying 550 for TRD struts and then 200 for springs which = 750. I might as well put another 70 dollars and get TEIN Coilovers? Can I change the drop because I'm driving Kaminari and that is pretty low as is already.

seriously, if you are doing anything on the track just get coilovers. You can find the trd struts and springs at trdsparks.com or mcgeorparts.com for apx 600 bucks. Seriously, just search around for tein basic coilovers, or ssp if you want the adjustable dampening, and spend the extra if you are serious about going to the track... You can change the drop with tein basics, which I assume you were looking at, due to the mentioned price, I am too lazy to check the minimal drop for the basics, but I know the drop is fully adjustable. Dampening with basics is not adjustable...

Well my pick is either between the basic coil overs or the trd struts and shocks. Which ever I can afford. If I can be patient after I get the 900 for basic and wait to get the ones for 1400 then ill get those with adjustable dampening. I'm just not going to be too serious about track. It would just be for fun once in a while. Thanks a bunch guys!

just save the extra money and go coilover. that way you'll have some flexibility in setting up the suspension

If you can drop the $900 on Tein Basic... I'd say save yourself another $100 and get a set of H&R... I'd trust their quality over Tein ANY day.

EDIT:

Here's a thread a friend showed me displaying the high Tein quality:
http://forums.evolutionm.net/showthread.php?t=266524

What's the difference? The H&Rs have a threaded shock body... not a sleeve. Of course... I don't know if the Basics are made like this... but if one of their products is made like this... I'd be weary of just about any of them.

Just my opinion though...

My friend has H&R Ultra Low's on his VW. Very nice ride. Stiff, but nice. The thing I like about Tein's, especially the SSP's, are the fact that you can do adjustments from inside the cabin with the upgradeable EDFC. I was also looking to get some Teins but a little out of my price range for what i wanted. I do know H&R, Tein, KW Variants, are all good brands to go with.

Oh and something I just thought of. I know some coilovers have to be rebuilt. By being rebuilt I mean sometimes the valving has to be adjusted over a significant amount of use. This might only apply to guys who are into racing but just something I've heard and something you might want to check up on.

Overall I love the ride of coilovers. For some they are ridiculous and there are good points for getting and for not getting them. But for me, I will be getting some next summer. Just do your research !

The EDFC is cool if you need the adjustable dampening on a regular basis... like if you run a lot of track days or autox events or something. Other than that, it's just another toy that you'd probably never use.
