Raped on Struts/Spring install estimate
Thought you might get some laughter from this ___ raping estimate to install springs and shocks. I'm not going to say the specific shop this is from, but let's just say they are a very famous shop in N. Jersey that also does general mechanic work.
ESTIMATE:
Parts:
Shop Supplies - (wtf?) - $9.95
---
Labor:
SHOCK &/OR STRUT ASSEMBLY - Remove & Install or Remove & Replace - Both [DOES NOT include Wheel Alignment] - $340.00
SHOCK &/OR STRUT ASSEMBLY - Remove & Install or Remove & Replace - Both [DOES NOT include Wheel Alignment] - $199.75
(wtf, that's an average of $134 per strut)
Spring &/OR Seat - Replace - Each - $25.50
Spring &/OR Seat - Replace - Each - $25.50
Spring &/OR Seat - Replace - Each - $25.50
Spring &/OR Seat - Replace - Each - $25.50
(WTF?)
Alignment - $129 (damn, wtf, better be perfect.)
----
TOTAL w/ TAX: $835.35
(wtf? price of TRD shocks and struts is the same as the install.)

thats crazy. that is far from what i got estimated to get just my springs installed. but ended up just doing it my self, me and buddy did it for just the price of the spring compressor and springs. but thats crazy. but sounds about normal for some shops.

DIY, it's a bit*h at first but now it takes me an hour...get a good set of sockets, a large breaker bar (pipe or something for torque), rent a spring compressor (i think you can give autozone 30 bucks and bring it back for a full refund) you also may want an air wrench to make things easier to spin the nuts off the top of the strut...remember to get an alignment done. tires went fast the first time.

post in the regional forums. there's PLENTY of people from NY/NJ with tC's that might help out. buy a case of beer and pizza and id sure as hell help if you were in TX. https://www.scionlife.com/forums/for...lay.php?f=1621
a local shop charged me $180 for shocks & spring install. i got a "lifetime" allignment at another shop for $100. i also just installed my coilovers on my own, it was cake!!!

There is absolutely no reason they should charge that much. Me and my dad did it on jackstands in my back yard. We had a lot of trouble with one of the rears so it took awhile for that one but we did the other 3 in like 2 1/2 hrs. So those shops are charging like $200 an hour in labor, that is crazy.

lol at your title.
yeah the labor pricing is a _____. also shop suppy fees? tell them you dont want that lol have them use their fingers to loosen the bolts.
129 is the price of lifetime alignment at firestone...a local garage does laser alignments for like $30s...
i dont even think you need to get a alignment on TRDs. at least not when i lowered my car on them. (wat a waste of money on the alignment.)
get a friend (preferably someone that is strong enough to bench press 200lbs. 300+ is perfered) or get a long ___ breaker bar. its a _____ to get the front strut back in...
also if you already have the springs in the struts then it shouldnt take you more then a few hours 2 maybe? 4 if you suck at this kind of stuff. theres a good DIY thread on this.
